Carrag Nuine

Pictured: The sacking of Carrag Nuine, during Avlar's conquest.

arrag Nuine, the City of Crossroads, was once the seat of power in the old kingdom of Eá-galwen, who ruled much of the lower half of Daënfel before Avlar's conquest of the continent.   The city was completely eviscerated during that war, with the vast majority of buildings destroyed and very few of the local populace survived. It has since been reinhabited and rebuilt over the past few centuries, starting with the old royal palace at the centre of the city and moving outwards.   This has led to a ring of ruins around the rebuilt city known as Old-Town, which are inhabited by less savoury folks and explored by looters and adventurers looking to explore the underground ruins said to be located beneath the city-proper.   Guards and adventurers can make a living off safely escorting traders and civilians in and out of the city as a form of tax to operate there. Outside of the ruins lie various trading camps and tent villages, as traders passing by elect to stay outside of town to avoid the danger and tax, resulting in a unique 3-tiered ring that distinctly seperate the areas of the city.   Because of this phenomena, the city's permanent population that reside in the inner ring is not very large (some believe that to be intentional, by the ruling powers of the Empire) despite Carrag Nuine actually being the largest city in the Empire by area.   At the centre of Carrag Nuine lies the Great Crossroads - a series of overlapping streets and alleyways that span in all different directions towards the many corners of the Empire. It is here that trade flourishes the most, with stalls, guilds and shopfronts aplenty selling delights from all across Daënfel.   The city is still a major hub for travellers, being one of the most central points of the Empire. Goods flow through in all directions, and there are inns and taverns aplenty throughout all of the city's rings. Barley and hop fields make up much of the surrounding countryside. Within the inner ring, Carrag Nuine is known for its collections of forges - great fires that burn day and night - as well as a healthy trade in relic collections featuring pieces from across the Empire.   Carrag Nuine is ruled by Duke Silvermane, the Emperor's cousin, who has two sons. The Duke is famous in the Empire for his callous relationship with his wife, as the man is constantly surrounded by whores and "attendants". There are rumours that the palace servants are all slaves who have been bought and magically enchanted with otherwordly beauty to satisfy his unending lust - all unsubstantiated and denied, of course.   In 1167, the population of Carrag Nuine rebelled against the then Emperor and declared their independence. The following year, the city lost its independence and was claimed by The Weavers & Spinners Union of The Nissien Coast.
