The Weavers & Spinners Union



his organisation is comprised of three dozen guilds, and acts as the ruling force of Helias, City of Silks - the Empire's trade capital and gateway from the Nissien Coast and Old Nissia to the rest of Daënfel.   When Avlar set out on his conquest of the continent, he found Helias already occupied by a force - a whole city's worth of men and women who had rebelled against their Sultan slave-masters, led by a partnership between the city's Weaver's and Spinner's, who were previously rivals.   The Union now represents the governing body who oversee the Nissien Coast, primarily through control of its industry and trade. Each of the 36 guilds that form the union represent a trade or profession. The seat of each Guild lies within Helias, and they preside over astronomical amounts of wealth flowing both in and out of the city.   The Guilds have a large reliance on mercenaries and ship captains to safeguard the city from threats, with each Guild sworn to only employ a small personal guard. Armies are not tolerated within the city, and so the Guild with the most power is the guild with the most coin to protect from or harm their adversaries in the city.   The Weaver's Guild and the Spinner's Guild continue to be the dominant powers of the Union. Larsa Igigi heads the Weaver's guild - a cunning and shrewd man who has only come to power recently, and with his ascent to power came a huge shift to the status quo of Helias's politics and business. The leader of the Spinner's Guild has remained a secret since the inception of the Union.
