Soldunn Darkhold Character in Axora | World Anvil

Soldunn Darkhold

Overview

Soldunn Darkhold belonged to an adventuring party that was involved in several notable moments during the year 584PC, concluding in Etta Maxime's confrontation against her father, Arman Justor.

Appearance

Soldunn is a broad-shouldered Dwarf of average height (for a Dwarf). These days he is easily identifiable by his unique helmet that is adorned with the antler of a giant stag that he infamously struggled to hit in a fight. He has pale brown skin, and braided black hair. He wields a fine warhammer that has a garnet jewel embedded in the side of it, a trophy from besting the Undwarf Prince in the Undrelm.

Personality

They are a chaotic force, particularly for one aligned to a secret organisation dedicated to maintaining order. Leo enjoys being mysterious, as far as going to keep people guessing what their birth gender is. They don't hide because they don't like talking about it, they do it to keep people off-guard and guessing. It is a surprisingly useful tool to disarm a target, verbally, and gain the upper hand in a conversation as a result. They are also rather flirty.

History

The Riot
Soldunn was born and raised in Goldforge and was only young when the Coppertown Riots happened. During those riots, Soldunn lost all of his immediate family and ended up in the care of his uncle.
The Mercenary
In his adult years, Soldunn joined The Grey Scales, a mercernary outfit located in Aldenia. There, he rose to the rank of Veteran, and fell in love with Bryss Oakhide, a fellow Veteran. When Bryss's escort mission of an expedition for The Aldenian Archaeological Society went missing in the ruins of The Temple of Fior Equa, Soldunn was prevented in mounting a rescue mission. So, he took matters into his own hands and left.
The Ullford Assignment
In search of better gear for his personal quest, Soldunn ended up in Ullford, and in lieu of payment (he had no money of his own) for an item he desired at Halatir's Haven - Ullford, Halatir Oberon accepted a trade for Soldunn's services. Soldunn accepted and escorted an amulet back to Halatir. Upon his return, he fell in alongside Falco Thunukalathi, Katakeleo Galadonel and Jraxler Rahman, during the events leading up to and culminating in the Feast of Plenty Attack on Ullford by Cyrind. The four individuals became an adventuring party afterwards and headed in the direction of Fior Equa.
The Undrelm
Together, they battled The Woodland Raiders a second time (whom they dealt with prior to the Feast of Plenty attack). Finally, by Soldunn's perspective, following assisting Katakeleo and Falco with their Dion'dia (Chosen of the Gods) trial to become Chosens of Essina, they made their way to Fior Equa. There, they discovered Bryss, and the others, had been taken into the Undrelm via a tunnel that had opened up when the temple was destroy centuries earlier. Soldunn managed to bluff his way into an Undrelm castle, pretending he was an Undwarf (despite being the wrong complexion) who had captured more topsiders. They made their way to the prisons, rescued the Society members and surviving Grey Scales, of which one was fortunately Bryss. Reunited with Bryss, they all escaped the Undrelm by causing an uprising against the tyrannical rulers (the aforementioned Undwarf Prince) of the castle by the residents of the nearby town of Obskarv.
To the Seas
From there, he and the others travelled to Brinewatch, after sending the Grey Scales members on their way. Bryss decided to leave the organisation and returned to the home Soldunn and the adventuring party had acquired in Ullford. From Brinewatch, the party sailed across the seas to a hidden island where Etta Maxime's The Sisters of the Sea were. Between the party and Etta and her crew, they forced their way through the permanent storm around the Eastern Isle of Aldenia, (Soldunn mostly using his strength to keep things from breaking). On the other side was a ghost town, within held the entrance to a secret prison. On the other side was a frozen chamber where time felt off, slow. The group entered the prison and rescued its prisoner. Once on the seas again, they realised this man was the legendary Nico Salvadore, an individual from The Cataclysm War. Etta Maxime is a chosen for Tidur, the god of water, and with Nico's rescue, it became apparent that Nico was the other.   Returning to Brinewatch as a whole group, they confronted Arman Justor at a social gathering, where his bargain with a shadowy fiendish entity was uncovered. Justor had made a pact many years ago, and was the cause of Dockworker's Disease, which had afflicted the town for two decades. Both Justor and the entity were killed.

Now

In the days after Justor's death, Soldunn departed for home, which was now with Bryss in Ullford. He did accept the request from Etta Maxime to escort one of her father's last outstanding shipments that was coming from that direction. So, he, Bryss and Jraxler did that, dropping Jraxler at his own home for Year's End with his family in River's Fork. Soldunn and Bryss celebrated Year's End by themselves in Brinewatch and finally tied the knot there, starting the new year as a married couple.   They returned to Ullford, and still carry out private mercernary work at their own discretion.
