This timeline highlights important events in the Pneuma Expedition, the first around the world journey since the Great Collapse of the Ancient Order.
After spending a couple of months looking across the waters of the Occulus Sea, Amaya decides it is time to make her dream a reality. However, a voyage around the world isn't something that one can just start on a whim if they plan on returning. Amaya knew this and so embarked on a long period of procurement. Specifically, she wanted to hire the best crew and equipment she could get. The whole endeavor would take a year to complete.
Amaya Pneuma finds and recruits Brave Timber of the Tribe of the Fading Mist. The Tabaxi has some reputation as a Finder in the Quassus western region. A scout would be an invaluable member of the expedition in locating shelter, food, and any signs of civilization.
Captain Captain Svalis Xiloscient agrees to have his ship and crew accompany Amaya Pneuma on her expedition after settling a score.
Amaya's travel to Lunaria was a worthwhile one. It was here, during the Talvi Festival, that she hired the mage that would accompany her crew, Sylren Starmind. The mage was a student of the Lleuadalas Academy but was also restless and in need of an adventure. Mages and their knowledge of the shards of wild magic could be invaluable in light of Magic Fields or Magic Storms.
Captain Amaya Pneuma writes the first entry in the journal gifted to her by Grau Quillblade. This would become an important document for The Archivists Guild.
If Amaya could have had anyone else join her expedition she would have them. However, Pontius Ophiucus had connections with Centrum's Exchequer. The Exchequer represents Amaya's best source of funding for preparing her expedition. Somehow, Pontius maneuvered himself so that the participation of him and his ship, Suerte Inesperada, was a condition of such funding. As for what his motives are for wanting to join the expedition, he will not say.
Amaya Pneuma hires Amator, a cleric with a reputation for healing even the most dire of ills. They agree to join the expedition on the condition that they would never be expected to do harm unto others.
Amaya finds and recruits a bard to join the expedition, Riora Songweave. Riora agrees to join the expedition for the stories she would learn along the way. It was also possible that she joined the expedition to leave a continent where people had grown all too familiar with her antics. Either way, Amaya had a crew member who could not only perform for amusement but perform to charm any strangers that might prove troublesome.
The expedition, led by Captain Amaya Pneuma, set sail from the Free City of Centrum and began their voyage around the globe. Though Amaya and her crew did not know it at the time, this would mark the beginning of global travel for a post collapse world.
The expedition travels through the Western Occulus Gate. During this passage they had an unexpected visit by Queen Shava Lunaria who wished to see the four-ship expedition in person.
A brief but powerful Magic Storm batters and rattles the fledgling expedition. No ships were lost, but it was decided that the small flotilla needed to make a stop before proceeding further.
The expedition makes a stop at the Fractured Coast in the aftermath of the unexpected storm of the previous week. Many of the crew believe the storm to be an ill-omen. Captain Pneuma hopes that a few days of shore leave will improve morale.
The expedition has an encounter with a spectral monster that preys on ships traveling by. As it was not guaranteed the monster would leave the expedition alone it was decided that the monster should be hunted. It took three days to eliminate the danger.
After their shore leave at the Fractured Coast the expedition sets sail across Ventu Bay which was once a battleground for Darya Silvermoon. Their destination is the Deshret Continent.
The expedition briefly sights the The Wandering Tower. They could not get close to it before it disappeared.
Pneuma's expedition explores the Deshret Continent, a land known to the people's of the Quassus Continent but its inner affairs had remained a mystery. Amaya aimed to learn as much as she could.
After spending six days searching the coast for a port, the expedition finds one. The port town of Azraq, and there they will learn much about what awaits them on the continent. This includes the ring of mountains called the Rayiq Mountain Ring separates an inner region from the outer region, and the Gateway Cities that control access between these regions.
Pneuma's expedition heads southward. Their destination? The Gateway City of Vavahady, a center of power due to controlling one of the only passages to the continent's inner deserts- and the resources passing to and from there.
While traveling down the coast, the expedition is unexpectedly pursued by pirates using ships of Azumanami design. It is not clear if these are outcasts or are hired privateers.
Pneuma's expedition arrives at the Gateway City of Vavahady. There they learn about the alleged tallest mountain in the world, Avon'col. Amaya Pneuma decides to find this mountain to see if the stories are true.
It did not take long before Pneuma's expedition encountered their first magic storm in the great desert. It was a fury of fire that only a nearby cave could protect them from. The storm lasted a few hours as the group became acquainted with the unexpectedly vegetated underground passage.
Amaya Pneuma tries her hand at a game the locals call "Boulder Lasso."
Amaya Pneuma and her expedition (three volunteers since the sand-ship wasn't that big) travel across the The Nerehet Sandsea on their way to the Avon'Col. Along the way, they met scavengers, sand currents, floating rocks of all sizes, and aggressive sand beasts. This made the trip a perilous one, but one that Amaya's expedition were able to overcome. They just needed to reassemble their sand-ship afterward.
Captain Amaya Pneuma attempts to climb the Avon'Col, a dormant volcano that is the tallest mountain in the world.
Pneuma's inland expedition returns to the Gateway City of Vavahady, and finds that word about her has spread. This word has both made friends and made some unexpected enemies.
The expedition attempted to explore an ancient ruin, which they referred to as the Frost Donjon. Unfortunately, Amaya's notes on this are lost. Many of the surviving
A crewman known as Jerry falls out of the ship, but was rescued. He had the sniffles afterwards.
Is this entry necessary?
The expedition has an unexpected encounter with The Iron Whale, once thought to have been only a myth. This would not be the only encounter.
The expedition encounters a storm on the high seas. During this storm the Marigold Apace loses a cannon.
The expedition briefly stops at the The Verdant Archipelago to explore the Ekla ruins. They then turn their course southwest to the Chivit Continent.
Before losing sight of the Verdant Archipelago, the expedition is pursued by pirates. The chase lasts for a couple of days as the expedition managed to keep pace ahead of the relentless pirates. Pneuma's expedition successfully evaded the pirates by turning into some fog produced by a magic field. The field induced a powerful sleepiness, and so the crew had to fight off falling into permanent sleep until they made it out of the fog. The expedition was within this field for a full day with only a quarter of the crew maintaining any lucidity. All crews slowly awoke over the course of the next day, some finding the sleep to be restful while others did not.
The expedition begins their long journey across to the Chivit Continent by first crossing the Wowala Ocean. This day was marked by another notable event: the appearance of several waterspouts on a clear day. A waterspout forming as a result of a magic field was not unheard of, but the number of waterspouts seen was very unusual. The crew took this to be an omen. Whether the omen was for good or ill varied by the person. The expedition steered clear of the waterspout for fear they could damage the ships of the small flotilla.
The new month did not get off to a good start on account of a several day period of no wind. The expedition was also in a magic deadzone, so the mages were not able to use spells to move the ships. Supplies were rationed during this period.
The expedition thought they sighted the shore of Chivit, but it turned out to be a mirage. They learned later that they had traveled over the Lalina Trench, a place rumored to have eldritch beings waiting beneath the waves.
The expedition is caught out by an unexpected monsoon. Unexpected, because such a storm was not expected until the summer. It was a reminder that they were not in the same hemisphere as when they started in Centrum. The monsoon lasted five days.
The expedition discovers the ruins of an Ancient Order complex. However, they quickly discover that it is ridden with disease, undead, and specters. The expedition found and removed an artifact from the structure, which led to its destruction. As the expedition continued their journey their travels seemed to be increasingly haunted by hostile wildlife, plants, and other strange beasts. They hoped to find safety soon, or the jungles of Chivit would be their end.
Pneuma's expedition encounters the Pază, who greet them warmly and offer shelter in their town. The Paza seem to view the expedition as clumsy in how they navigate the rain forest and say that they have been damaging. A Pazan called Pualani acts as liason between the people of the village and the expedition.
Shortly after their encounter with the Paza, Pneuma's expedition encounter the woodland spirit of the Anestri'For. Captain Darya Silvermoon was wounded during the encounter and could not be nursed back to full health. A powerful magic had decended on the expedition. The Paza claim that the spirit is angered by the expedition's presence. The expedition seeks ways to placate or otherwise eliminate the problem. The latter of these options would surely find them expelled by the Paza Tribes.
The expedition finds a floating sky island of an unusually perfect geometric shape floating in the sky above the Anestri'for. The Pazan Pualani tells them that it is one of the Mlezi Sky Islands, and briefly tells of the legend of the Moyo Crystals within it.
Amaya Pneuma resolves matters with the spirit, which is but one of many.
While exploring the shores of a large bay the expedition uncovers the entrance to a large underground tunnel. They were not able to find the end of the tunnel, which seemed to stretch northward where it would have stretched underneath the bay.
Pneuma's Expedition explores the Planus Continent, a land of great canyons and vast plains. The exploration begins their exploration of this land during the 15th of Aeris, 1159AGC.
The expedition has another encounter with The Iron Whale. This time the whale follows the expedition closely making the crews nervous. However, it stops as Pneuma's expedition approaches the Ancient Crater.
The expedition enters the strange and mysterious Ancient Crater. There they encounter an ever present fog that thickens as one travels to the center of the crater. Pneuma decides to brave this fog to see what lies within. The Marigold Apace returns to the rest of the flotilla greatly damaged necessitating a stop at the nearest shore. Captain Pneuma herself lost her right eye in the encounter. The culprit of the incident was very likely a great ocean dwelling beast commonly referred to as a kraken. The whole incident from entry into the crater to emerging from the fog was three days.
The expedition make port at a town they learn is called Talafatai. There they learn more about the Ancient Crater as well as learn about the The Great Chasm, the mountains behind the chasm, and tales of the lands beyond.
While traveling to the edge of The Great Chasm the expedition stops by a mesa. In the following morning's light they discover that the mesa had been hollowed out to create a grand interior of ancient design. From what the expedition could explore, the mesa was the sight of an ancient vault. A few unbroken glass-like disks with intricate subsurface designs were found and kept as recovered artifacts.
As the expedition tried traveling inland, they were kept up at night by the howls coming from the The Great Chasm. The local Liu tells of various legends behind the howls including that of the Long Deep, and that the vast canyon is a dangerous barrier making any travel to the plains beyond it and the mountains perilous.
The expedition's journey across the arctic was a difficult one as it was attempted during winter. The arctic navigation skills of Captain Svalis Xiloscient proved to be indispensable as the expedition traveled the frozen geography of the Planus northern region. The proper application of fire magic by the expedition's mages also helped make passage possible. Starvation was an ever present threat. They finish the freezing journey in time for the new year. The coast the expedition is about to explore will be very different from the sheer cliffs and deserts of the eastern coast.
The Marigold Apace usually has no need to fire full broadside at an approaching ice giant, but she needed to on this day. This feat impressed Captain Silvermoon (she's rarely impressed).
The expedition travels by a Fjord that occasionally howls. The sailors do not know if this is because of the wind or of some great beast. It was decided to sail past this geological feature for more favorable shores. In some ways, it reminded the expedition of their sleepless nights near the Great Chasm.
The expedition discovers Velika Island, a floating island with a unique ecosystem. To be more precise, it is a collection of islands that appear to be held together by the roots of many trees. When the expedition took a closer look, they discover that rather than it was all one great tree holding everything together.
As the crew was relaxing and exploring the great floating island of Velika a curious thing happened. Each every member of the expedition were lulled into a lucid dream wherein they conversed with some great spirit. Many of the crew kept what transpired to themselves, including Amaya Pneuma.
The expedition sights a storm approaching on the horizon. It seemed a rather unusual storm as it was occurring early in the year leading to many on the crew to suspect a wild magic origin. It was decided to head into a bay as chances of surviving the storm would be greater. During the second day in the bay, the 9th of Terra as the storm began to dominate the horizon, they encounter a group merhorse riders. The riders offered to guide the ships to their city of Ishnanor to wait out the storm. The expedition gladly took the offer.
The expedition is led by a group merhorse riders to safety at the city of Ishnanor. They arrive during the 10th of Terra, as the storm made landfall. There they waited out the storm and were able to repair and resupply. They also conversed and traded with the city's citizens during their stay and learned more about the affairs and geography of the continent.
The expedition sights a second Mlezi Sky island, but this one they only viewed at a distance after remembering the previous encounter with the Paza.
The expedition catches their first sight of the Edellä Sky Archipelago, which was believed to be a myth to the peoples of the Quassus Continent. The ships were visited by a representative of the Edella who tells them much about the sky islands. However, the expedition was also warned to not set foot on the islands.
The end of a long journey. The expedition's return to Centrum was marked by a quiet evening securing their battered ships in the harbor, and then spending the night at the The Wild Oyster Tavern.
Pneuma's expedition holds a grand auction for the many treasures gathered from the travel. Not everything was sold, there were items of sentimentality for everyone who lived through the journey, but enough was sold to build a sizable pool of wealth.
The Centrum Director's Council launches an investigation into the legitimacy of the expedition's claims to have traveled around the world- particularly whether the artifacts were are genuine.
Arch Archivist Grau Quillblade and Archivist Taenya Naïlo bought the Eustacia Archive and registered the guild with Centrum authorities. The guild's mission was inspired by the Pneuma Expedition.
