Third Brothers Rebellion, called the Twins War
The Conflict
Prelude
It is widely agreed that the Third Brothers Rebellion was predicated upon the rashness of Dorreon III. Whilst still a prince, Dorreon broke his betrothal with Raesa Stohen and wed Lady Tarana Braer without the consent of his father, Bethraal the First. They bore a single son, named Ruark. Ruark was a Ghastling, and many feared he was a child of ill fortune. King Bethraal feared for the child's life. "Ruark" was an Ainros name, and Bethraal had both a brother and uncle with Ainros names who had died in childhood. Dorreon would not listen, however. Dorreon's alleged passion for his wife did not stop him from impregnating his own cousin, Gildorrea Stohen, three years later. They named the child after the King, but this did nothing to mellow the King's contempt. Though born out of wedlock, this second son would be admired while the first was feared, and would grow up called Bethraal the Beloved. Dorreon was alternately loved and feared by the people. Many whispered that his wife, Lady Tarana, was a sorceress that had bewitched him away from both his betrothed and his "true love," Gildorrea. His brother Carn, meanwhile, was widely admired and respected. He would eventually take a voyage far north to Vaina and return with many wonders, endearing him to the people all the more. These wonders included a clown named Titan, the Wizard Ermengarda of Felissar, the wealthy Eysch merchant Yohin Laras, Carlo Hayn who would become chief of Clan Hayn, and his daughter Verenice, who had been wed to the renowned hero Cullach Odon, thus binding Clan Odon to Prince Carn. Clan Odon was at the top of its power at this time, and it is widely agreed that Prince Carn's cause would have been unthinkable without their support.
