Ermengarda of Felissar

Wizard Ermengarda Ferdinadaro

Wizard to Carn the Usurper, Ruark Redeye, and Dorren the Young King   Ermengarda was the first royal Wizard to be entitled in Revellia since the disappearance of Anjiil Shadowmaster, over a century ago.   Ermengarda was taken into Carn's service during his voyage north, which gained him the support he would need to seize the crown years later. Felissar was the capital city of Vaina, said to be Ermengarda's home, so she was thus entitled.   Ermengarda served as a kind of High Magus for Carn before he seized the throne, directing missives and managing communication between the Usurper and his allies, which were spread across the West and the Green Isle. So vital was Ermengarda to Carn's success that he reinstated wizardry in Revellia after taking the crown, and allowed Ermengarda to select two apprentices from the castle's spellers: Anna of Hammerbend and Surshem Hayn (later known as Surshem the Serpent).   It is widely believed that Ermengarda turned against Carn at some point and was vital in gathering forces around Ruark Redeye and Bethraal the Beloved for their war against the Usurper. Rumors suggest she played a role in the attempted murder of Bethraal's sons, yet this seems unlikely, as she remained under the man's service during the entirety of his regency over Dorren the Young King.   Ermengarda died of a burst gut in the first half of Dorren's brief reign, her mantle inherited by Surshem the Serpent.
