Caen Odon

Sir Caen Odon

A hero and martyr of the Third Brothers Rebellion.   Born to Lord Arthar Odon and Lady Gwenice Maan.   The great feats and honors of Sir Caen Odon are numerous.   In his youth, it is said Caen was hunting werewolves in the Fiirwood when he happened upon a red stag. The red stag was a mythical creature thought long extinct, and the sigil of Clan Odon, from a time when they ruled the Boarswood before kneeling to Clan Beth in ancientry. Caen supposedly wrestled this stag into submission, then defended it from wolves as he brought it out of the forest. For this, he was called Stag Beater and the Red Fawn in his youth, and some would even call him Wolfsbane when dealing with Clan Graunt, who bear a werewolf as their sigil.   Knighted at sixteen, named a breyv at eighteen, Sir Caen would serve as his father's castellan from nineteen to four-and-twenty, as Lord Arthar slowly deteriorated from a wasting illness. Sir Glendon Maan would take over this honor in Lord Arthar's last year, as Lord Arthar's heir Sir Cayl Odon would return from Revelback to assume his rule of Queenspoint, and wanted a trusted family member to take his place at the capital. Lord Arthar would die in late 68 RA, the very year that Bethraal I died in his bed and Dorreon III took the throne.   Sir Caen accompanied Prince Carn on his famous voyage north into Vaina and would return with a bride from the family that would establish itself as Clan Hayn. This wife, called Verenice, was reported as bright and beautiful, and the two were said to love each other fiercely, though they bore no children. This marriage would help bind Clan Hayn and the Odons strongly to the Prince, which would prove vital during the Third Brothers Rebellion.   During the war, both Caen and his brother Lord Cayl were consummate leaders and ferocious warriors in service to Prince Carn, who had been named for their great-grandfather Carnas Odon, and Caen is said to have saved the Prince on the battlefield three times. The war famously ended with a hollymock between the Prince and his twin brother King Dorreon III. Prince Carn won the hollymock, but the King broke faith and fought on, with intent to slay his brother. Before the fight could conclude, Sir Caen broke in and slew the King, explaining that he could not bear to see the Prince slay his own brother. Carn thanked Sir Caen for this, but said he could not forgive the knight for killing a king. The Odons say Sir Caen took the crown from Dorreon's head and set it upon Carn's, then knelt for execution under King Carn's blade. His unyielding valor and loyalty are often held up as a shining example for all Odon warriors.
