Myth X Introduction

Hello! I'm Myth Cross! In the following sections, I'll be honoring my Life adventure that got me to WA! I'd like to share this special journey with you! I'll give you a look at the past of Pathon, the current state of the project, and the future of Arc Sagas!

Join me as I share insights from my life as a gamer, reader, writer, artist, musician, and fellow World-Builder. I'll also be celebrating Articles & Community Members that made WA and my successes this year truly special! I've always wanted to be a Writer, so it's finally nice to be living as one! Let's proceed with the story that brought me to WA.
Reader Beware!
I will be talking about my personal life throughout this Article.
It's my resolution. Chonker Alert: 5K Word Count
I'm taking the opportunity to celebrate my journey and skill development.
Please use the Contents provided if you're here for something else.

Epiphany 19

In 2019, I began an untitled project, as I finally resolved to gather the resources it required. I had long been in a state of conceptualization & observation, collecting books on how to write, reading reviews & criticisms of art & media, and developing skills towards those ends.
RPG Maker was a game I played in the 90s during the PS1 Era. Oh, it was perfect---ly complex for a child! Especially one that had been recently introduced to fantasy titan, DnD. I insatiably gobbled books, content & source material, making fun, clumsy campaigns, living my best fantasy Life.

I invested in Photoshop; as a graphic design student back in 00's, I didn't find many opportunities to use that set of professional skills, but I wanted to. Then, came along a gem from my childhood- something that revitalized my interest in developing my treasured dreams- RPG Maker MV.
I'm an experienced GM with earlier systems: DnD 3.5e. I've mixed feelings about DnD 5e; I like it but prefer it for short, one-shot games. In the same year, I attended Tsubasacon as a vendor; I was able to see various TTRPG's played. It got me to re-visiting the musings of designing my own.

Dungeoneer 22

Not a home-brew- though most of my current TTS resembles one. I seek to create a game that has enough rules to create an engaging system without scaring newer players away. The best way to do that is through immersive game play experiences. I started work on RPG Maker at the end of 2019, incorporating elements from theTTS in its design.
I named the project in 2023: Dungeoneer. It was solid- represented a body of work I had been dreaming of for several years prior. I don't regret the skills I learned: image editing, modest pixel art, and story-telling are now strong tools in my toolbox. I had to build failures and successes with even hands.

Years of World-Building and design turned into years of developing small sets of skills, such as reading code syntax to change/ modify plug-ins, narrative elements for flow & dialogue (scene-building), and delving deeper into mechanics of RPG Maker to get the most from the system. I had rain, weather, day & night cycles, rich characters & NPCs while I was working on making and collecting the assets.
Sadly, the project died in 2023, due to a mishap with the save files, my databases were corrupted. While I salvaged some work, the majority of it looked like swiss cheese. It was gone: Dungeoneer will always be an important step towards my future endavors. I decided to include my only screen shot, and a few of the pixel art designs I was proud of. I made the Slimies myself!

Project: Arc Sagas will return to the RPG version of the World setting. I'm confident the road will take me back to the Dungeon, where it all started.
Thank you, RPG Maker, for providing tools of development for developing minds.
— Duncrest, resting place of the Dungeoneers & Debug Avatar

WA Master 23

Before the fall of Dungeoneer, I joined WA on a "Masters", in hopes of merging my Projects into one organized location. This is an opportunity for me to say that over the year, I've read fantastic stories, inspiring settings, and wonderful worlds, all from a community I've been searching for my whole Life!
I don't think I have to tell you, but fellows, we have it rough, don't we? There's a universe searing in our imaginations & in our hearts, that only we can see, aching to be released! And it must! A dream, not as one that captures your heart but as one that captures your Life, must Live!
" It is a dream formulated and fostered for your own sake. Men are entranced by their dreams regardless of birth, rank or social standing. The dream supports them. It makes them suffer and it breathes new life into them. And it kills them. Even after they've given up on it, it continues to smolder in their hearts. All men have a dream at least once in their lives. They imagine themselves being martyrs to the God their dream has become. Others live on powerlessly, birthed into the world. I could not endure such a life.
— Griffith to Charlotte, On Dreams, Berserk, K. Miura
If there's one message I could impart, it would be to live Life in purpose. Find something that motivates you and go for it! Be daring in the pursuit of your dreams and follow them wherever they may lead! Even if you fail, successively you will learn; thus, nothing is lost! Treasure your experience as a valuable lesson!
Focusing my work on WA has given me tools and confidence I needed to start my career. Writing & reading will always be a passion of mine! It is wonderful to finally meet a community of individuals who are largely committed to similar purposes! I see you! In 2024, I wish you the best in all of your endeavors!

I started as a novice, using the default layout, ignoring most BR and CSS in favor of writing. The majority of 2023 I spent narrating the Origin Mythos of my setting in Timelines. After Dungeoneer, I decided to redouble my efforts. I suppose at this point, you're wondering what any of this has to do with the price of butter?
The Pathon Project started much earlier in my life than 2019: it began when I read my first book, a folk tale from Japan, on the subject of "Dream-Eaters." I fell in love with reading: fables, folklore, moral stories, & mythos, encyclopedias on flora, fauna, and all the wonders of our world!

November Prep

Over the Summer & Autumn, I participated in Summer Camp & Spooktober Events. I wanted to participate to get a feel for events. The moments leading up to November were when I'd hear of World Ember for the 1st time. It sounded like a great opportunity to get some serious work done on my Project! Included is my Pledge for the Month:

The goal was 25K on the Magic System in my setting. I spent time goal-setting and preparing a task schedule; the opportunity allowed me a chance to look at my home page and Meta. In the 4th Week, that's when things changed; so much so that the original name "Pathon" and my prior alias, "Rock Harvey" no longer reflected my project. I officially became "Myth Crossing the Story-Teller". Once I was free to become who I wanted to be, nothing was going to stop me!
The Story of my World-Ember is one that will continue to inspire me throughout my days. Ondo suggested in the 4th week to form a small writer's group. This isn't something I do- collaborations fill me with terrible anxiety. However, I heard the call, and that call was of my tribe; the people I needed right when I needed them the most. 6 People joined in the spirit of mutual development and compassionate sharing of ideas and, of course, World-Building!

World-Ember

I've always wanted to be part of a serious writing group. I'll be honest, every single person that joined intimidated me in some way! Their Worlds, body of work, CSS presentations- superb! I didn't feel like I belonged, and I was the initiator! I couldn't have gotten any luckier than the group that came together. I'm proud that all of us remained relevant on the Leaderboards. To avoid unfairness, I hesitated to like every single thing they made- but that was difficult! There was some great talent, which I'll be sharing momentarilly!
Each one of us completed our goals! And then some! My good friends gave me ample credit throughout WE for my efforts; I read every Article, was available, and offered encouragement to each one. As for me, I crushed 10K in the 1st week and by the 2nd week, my original goals were behind me. Success urged towards the Loquacious Badge. I hit that as well! I moved up to 75K! It was at this point, I know people were noticing- my page views increased by 3000 by the end of the month!

I received a few scathing remarks in regards to my word count. I'm also sure I was judged rather harshly on my initial presentations as well; they were bare compared to some CSS efficient worlds. But, would you look at me now? ROW/COL, quote boxes, links, a Spotify player... SLIMIES! I will learn CSS and BR, don't worry about that! This Project is going to get better! If you're wondering why this Article is so long, that's why! Look at all the floopin BR! I'm practicing, ova hya! I'll be even better next year; I know because I'm getting better daily, so look out!
When I hit 95K, I decided I wanted to remain relevant. 1st and 2nd didn't matter- I needed more traction earlier in the month if that were truly my endeavor and top word count wasn't my end-goal. The fact of the matter is, if my goals had been #1, I'd have done it, simply. I knew I wasn't going to win popularity polls with weak presentation, and I don't expect to do incredibly well in the Categories Ceremony. Moreso, this was an opportunity for me to test myself and enrich people along the way- building a team was more important than winning on the Leaderboards.

Thank you, WE Community Group! Because of you, I realized that if a book is only 50K, then my dreams to write aren't that far away! I'm getting closer, through every trial and betrayal I'm made stronger, and I couldn't have done it without members of our group and a supportive Chapter, Articles Anonymous. Because of them, I have the confidence, courage, and pride to stand up and shout: I was #4 on the Leaderboards! With an astounding, staggering count of....!

125000 WORDS! 100%+ GOAL!

# 4 IS MY LUCKY NUMBER!

I wrote some of my best work this month: "Year-Ender", "Sticky Cough", & "Arches at the Crossroads" were excellent, inspired pieces that I'm absolutely proud to stand by. My World, and my toolbox, both are much larger now, thanks to my efforts in WE. I created a powerful body of work, wrote more in this month than the entire year, met new friends who invigorate me with their writing, I belong to an amazing Chapter headed by Alishahr; she started the Chapter during WE! I'm excited to be working along side such talented and wonderful individuals!
If you made it this far, congratulations! Now you know as much as you need to about Myth X. I'm transparent about my mental health issues because it helps to let other people know that they're not alone. I'm transparent about my goals & life because I choose honesty. I have to take a moment like this to acknowledge that it has been a strange and wonderful journey to be here today. Thank you for taking the time to help me celebrate that fact!

World-Song Awards

While writing "Year-Ender", I came up with a way to honor the friends that helped me get here. I call it the "World-Song Awards". I feel this will be a part of every WE or Year-End event moving forward. In my setting, each year an Astronomer speaks on the tales of worlds they've seen beyond the "Greater Cosmos". Included in the body of that Article are their worlds, which I'll also add here. Check them out! They'll give you plenty of great reasons to want to follow; give them a chance! Great people with wonderful world settings, from writers to TTS GMs!

"To each one, teach one; it takes a village."
— a gentleman in passing; on Community, a day in my life

I'll present my favorite Articles from WE, along with 2 Articles that inspires me to continue developing my skills.

Sunnybirdboi
I'll start with the 1st Person to join: SunnyBirdBoi & Visctheria. What struck me about this World initially was the organization- the Article Blocks are superbly crafted and the layouts are dark and ambient. It's a world of dark deities with ancient lore and secrets enough to keep any lorehound busy! Congrats on achieving your goals through the month! While I didn't get to speak with you as much as I'd have liked about your setting, it continues to be a mysterious realm that I think others will enjoy exploring. Consider following Visctheria and supporting the Ko-Fi!
— special thanks to JoyBoy for setting up the Discord

Alishahr
Alishahr is a hard-working, industrious and diligent World-Builder and Chapter Leader. As mentioned, Alishahr put together AA during WE! Devoted and extraordinary individual! She was also the second person to reply to my support group posts, and I was stunned by her beautifully imaginative and detailed Worlds. Valthena is a testament to Alishahr's passion for Realm Building and Story-Telling.
In addition, Dinosaur Country is wild! I love it so much in concept- I'm in a phase of developing pre-historic histories, as well as building "Saurians" into a modern setting, so this one was a huge inspirational blast for me! Alishahr initially wanted to write "Fossil Creek" as a WE goal and successfully presents a magnificent settlement on a ravenous frontier! Best of good luck to you, Alishahr; to your dreams and endeavors, I'm here for it and I wish you well!

Mochimanoban
It's your turn! This magnificent individual, World-Builder & Story-Teller, their vast Worlds and breadth of work honestly need no introduction- but I'm going to do it anyways! Mochimanoban! Is it any surprise? Have you read these fantastic, inspired species Articles? Incredibly driven and heartfelt Conservationist with compassion for their work and others, consider supporting Mochi's Ko-Fi and vicariously, the span of Yonderverse, A to Zoo, and... well, it's a list!
I had space to discuss interesting subjects such as taxonomy and principles of classification, which was extraordinarily helpful when writing the Slimy set of creature Articles. "Monster Hunting" was already a popular choice amongst polls & community, thus I chose a body of work that I considered superbly gripping Story-Telling: Ghost!
Prepare to be shocked!

— special thanks to Mochi for excellence as an inspiring individual

Catoblepon
Catoblepon is another inspiring individual who throughout World Ember provided me with genuine companionship and a kind, constructive place to discuss ideas and opinions, thoughts about my project, and writing/ character goals. Catoblepon let us know what time was available, giving us clear expectations; Catobleopon is industrious and the magnificent body of Worlds, commitment to community and creativity, and the presentations show. Consider following any number of Catoblepon's Worlds for inspiration, intriguing characters, and unique CSS layouts. Thanks for all the help, Catoblepon! I pray your future successes!
I chose the Article, "Dryad" for many reasons- it was a challenge post and prompt, part of Catoblepon's Chapter activities, slotted into WE perfectly, and continued to evolve throughout the month. It's a wondefully articulate Article!
— special thanks for honesty & communication
Dryad
Species | Dec 19, 2023

A dryad is a magical representation of the forest they live in, whom life is tied to the tree used in their summoning.

Elspeth
What a wonderful individual! Initially, Elspeth was late to the group- which I kick myself for all the time! Elspeth was a wonderful personal correspondence as I decided I'd follow Valikka for the wonderful societies, curious species, the inventive technology, and the animistic mythos of the Peacekeepers. Part- Campaign Module for adapatable systems, Elspeth's project is one close to my heart as we both explore what it means to present our dreams to the world.

You go, Elspeth! I invited you to our group because I could tell you're a truly remarkable and mindful person. It shows in your work, the consideration of details, and I'm proud that you achieved your goals for WE! In the spirit of presenting our projects as interactive experiences, I chose a wonderful Plot which expresses Elspeth's daring World. I look forward to what Elspeth87 produces in the future!

Chapter: Articles Anonymous

Articles Anonymous is a Chapter group that is dedicated to opening space for conversations about World-Building and Goal-Setting towards the end! I joined early in the month as one of the founding Chapter members. I support what Alishahr is promoting, and I look forward to a healthy correspondence with its members.

With WE in full swing, I wasn't able to meet every member, but I'd like to post 3 Articles I quite enjoyed! Included are their Worlds! Settle in for some fantastic pieces by some creative Authors!

Dragonquillca
Dragonquillca, or Quill, is an excellent and active member of the community who is often providing inspiration or guidance to its members. A fantastic writer whose tellings are richly steeped in description and musical language, Quill helped many members in the group achieve their successes. It feels my heart well to know there are people in the community as compassionate and caring about not only Story-telling and World-building, but people as well. Thank you, Quill! Best of good luck in the New Year!

Demongrey
Demongrey's "Million Islands" is a rich- and I mean RICHLY- imagined cultural world with a strong animistic spirit. The Islands are alive, leaping from the oceanic pages to Life; with Gods, Loci, tales and stories- it's a MILLION ISLANDS and everyone of them feel as though they rise straight from the sea of myth and legend. EVERY! SINGLE! ONE! As someone who is attempting to build Mythos work as well, I admire the creativity, the language of the cultures and locations, and the body of work that is a sea-faring, highwinds adventure to peoples and places far and wide! What a thrill- you go, Grey! I'm excited to see what you continue to produce in AA/ WA!

TynenTM
I'll be honest, I haven't had as much of an opportunity to explore Kingdoms of America as much as I'd like, so I won't speak much on that. Tynen does present a gripping alternate history, which is a wonderful take on World-Building. Theres many fascinating writers within the genre and Tynen is no exception! It's going to be wonderful to see the world expand! The Articles look as if they came straight from the world itself! Good luck on your project, Tyvnn!

Inspirational 2024 Spotlights

I wish I had the time (or the energy!) to explore these worlds; each one on WA has something unique and truly offers a platform for enthusiasts of art, culture, gaming, and literature, to truly unite from all over this beautiful World. The following are 2 Worlds that I saw pop-up occasionally. I wish the 2 of these individuals the best of good luck! I'll be following their Worlds from now on and looking forward to the awesome content!
Jontaro
Amazing. From the striking color palettes and character designs, the dynamic art and portrayals, or the breath-taking layout full of surprises, "Dungeons" was an exciting read! As someone who is also writing about a setting with Dungeon anomalies, this was truly a remarkable read/ find! I love the attitude in the style that promises a colorful adventure in an atmospheric world! Best of good luck to you, Jontaro! Godspeed, success! Consider supporting their Ko-Fi!
