Lord Foltrec

The Creator of Anti-Magic

(Legacy Content)

Lord Aeroy Mortimer Foltrec

By your magics, our world would be cast to the claws and fangs below! By my blade, you will be cast down instead! May your death prove a good enough warning to others, so I may not again coat my blade in blood so foolish!
— Lord Foltrec when executing one of his targets
Lord Aeroy Mortimer Foltrec is an important historical figure in Ysrailore during the First Era. He was the first and only Hand-Knight ever chosen by Lady Ysrai, and for good reason. His ample mystical capabilities made him more than worthy of bearing such a title, but what he is mostly known for in magical societies is his creation of anti-magic spells and techniques. Without this foundational work, the world at large would have a far harder time attempting to control it mystical population with success. This has allowed Maijure-based societies to flourish just as those technology-based ones do, with less fear of everything being torn apart by a few rogue mages.

History

Dark Age to First Age

Due to the nature of the Dark Age, not much is known about Aeroy Foltrec's early life, aside from what he has informed us of. According to his own words, he was born into a simplistic and boring underground lifestyle. He longed for something more, and joined up with a militia group under the young Lady Ysrai. He followed her on her journey across the underground world to find the mysterious Tyrra, and was witness to the The Four Great Heroes as they spoke at length about their desire to retake the surface. The next few months are a muddled combination of convincing the populous to join them in their mission, as well as training. In his own words, the last few days of that preparation were when he first began developing his anti-magic theorems.

Once he leaves the underground, his exploits begin to truly form the historic figure we have today. In the initial battle for Sancturalore, Aeroy cut swath after swath through the wretches and fiends he found. He began to make a name for himself as "The Beastman," as his relatively unknown anti-magics forced his foes to face him in melee where he could easily dispatch the confused and weakened demons.

The Right-Hand of Ysrai

You are not the first to impress me - that honor goes to Tyrra - but that doesn't change the fact that your theories here could change the face of Maijure forever.
—   Lady Ysrai during her meeting with Aeroy Foltrec
When she discovered that one of her soldiers had come up with a new tactic for defeating demons, Lady Ysrai went to visit Aeroy and see for herself what kind of methods he was employing. He taught her about his anti-magic theories, and how Maijurous can be used to disrupt spellcasting by suffusing the spell being cast with discordant magics. Together, the two of them worked to further his original theory, and came up with the first few anti-magic spells we know today, being Dispel Magic and Counterspell. Ysrai would then put the new magics to the test in her next battle, where she was ambushed in what would become the valley of Ysrai's Heart. There, she would save both her life and the lives of many others with a few key counterspells, proving to herself the efficacy of this new magic. This of course would begin her campaign to free the valley of its demonic influence. She was so impressed by the functionality of these spells that upon returning to camp that day, she made Aeroy her Hand-Knight, and personally granted him the first issuance of the title of "Anti-mage." From there, Lord Foltrec went on to continue his training, both mystical and martial. He would soon earn his final title of "the Blue-Silver Flash," in reference to his deep-blue Veluvium-glass blade Runescourge being drawn across his opponents frequently as he exits his silvery dimensional doorways.

After his escapades in the Reclamation, and his services as the right-hand of Ysrai, Lord Foltrec saw fit to take an early retirement. He gave his artifact blade to his lady, and moved away to the central reaches of Gjalvalore, where he would stay in a much more humble lifestyle for the remainder of his days. He would eventually settle down, marry, and begin a family in a log-cabin outside the village that would eventually become the foundations of Bleakwood. Though his life would come to an unceremonious end, as on an expedition into the nearby Misted-Hollow he came into contact with a Hemalilia plant, and contracted Blood Fever. He would perish just two hours later in his cabin with his wife and son by his side, awaiting a healer too late to arrive.
