Blair

Blair was sad to see Highburn go. The world had welcomed her and the king with parades and celebrations all over the world. She had spent much less time with the King than she had wished or liked. He was busy with matters of state throughout most of the days, but the estate which had been granted to her had kept her busy.

Blair had always taken the Bishop of Highburn up on his offer, and visited the sights of the world with him. They had visited locals around the world, and he had taken her to several schools to visit the children where she agreed to offer up hald the wealth created by her new estate to fund programs for those less well off children.

Their time ended quickly though, and in a matter of days she was back on the shuttle and returning to the ‘Royal Dragon’.

“Queen Blair,” Lord Taryn Murkwood greeted her as she walked off the shuttled back onto the ‘Royal Dragon’. The Hand of the King was an old yet beautiful woman. She bowed her hand to Blair.

“Lord Murkwood,” Blair responded with a smile.

“I told you, call me Taryn my queen,” the hand said.

“And I told you to just call me Blair,” Blair replied with a gentle smile.

“You know I cannot,” Lord Murkwood said. “King Oswald said he will be on board shortly. His meeting with the High Bishop has gone longer than expected, but affairs of state wait for no one.”

“I hope all is well?” Blair asked.

“I believe so my queen. Nothing I am not worried about, and I worry about everything,” the Hand told Blair. “The High Bishops had a few matters of the Faith to discuss with the King. No doubt the Faith is seeking more credits to be sent to Fabia. The Holy Bishop in Fabia is forever seeking to increase her own coffers to continue to defend the Faith throughout Fabian Space.”

“We must all do our part,” Blair said meekly. The Fabian Faith was the richest and most powerful organization in Fabian Space. The rich worlds of Fabian Space were also always under threat of attack from outsiders. The Furse, The Lims, the Baatar, Bulans, and many more. They did little to defend those worlds though. Took their credits, and encouraged the local lords to handle it, and the faith became that much richer. They did good in the communities though.

“I have heard that the King wishes to see his own Bishop placed on the Throne of the Faith,” Flower cut in.

“Hasn’t been an Old Blood Holy Bishop since our conversion to the faith,” Lord Murkwood said. “Perhaps, but if that is the king’s plan, he had not informed me.”

“No?” Blair asked surprised. “As Hand to the King, I would think you would know his mind better than any.”

Lord Murkwood laughed. “No, I no more know his mind than my own right and left hands know what my brain will do. I just do as commanded, and have the authory of the King to back it up.”

Blair nodded. Oswald seemed to be a secret and private man, and her own time with him was hard to find. He didn’t often speak of affairs of state in private with her. She would have to change that. She did not come to the edge of Fabian Space to be a submissive wife. She came to be a queen, and it was time for her to find that power.
