Warin

“Wake the fuck up,” Warin heard as alarms rang out in his private quarters, and the shots of weapons fire became unmistakable.

Warin woke, his mind still figgy, but his body reacted, and before he knew it had a pistol in his hand before Beth was even awake. He looked to the door where Aslaug stood with weapon in hand.

“What the fuck is going on?” Warin asked in shocked confusion.

“We’re under attack,” Aslaug replied.

Ozma burst into the room, weapon in hand, and battle armor already on, and Warin could see the blood spilled onto the armor. “They’ve attempted to take the System-lord, along with all the quarters located close, as well as Command Center, life support, and ancestors know what else.”

“Who?” Warin asked as Aslaug moved, and helped him put on his under-armor, and he cursed himself for leaving his power armor on the ‘Ice Hammer’.

Ozma shook her head. “Unknown, numbers unknown. All I know is that the extra guards you posted saw something off, and,” she shook her head. “Fuck Warin, I dropped two outside your quarters just now. If you are a target, so is your father.”

Warin nodded, and looked back at his wife. He forced himself to nod before he spoke. “Aslaug get my wife to my father, and make sure he is secure. Ozma,” he said, and knew that there would be no way she would part with him at this moment. “Gather what forces we have, we need to make sure the Command Center, and throne room remain in our hands, and start locking sections down.”

Ozma nodded, and Warin was glad she didn’t put up a fight. It also meant that it was serious.

“I want to go with you,” Beth said.

“No,” Warin said firmly, and looked at his wife, and than Aslaug who looked at though she were about to agree with his wife, and she shut her mouth. “My father knows you both, he will need you by his side. I need you both to keep him calm, and I need you to get him to call an emergency council meeting. Understood?”

Beth, and Aslaug nodded in agreement.

“How many guard do we have?” Warin asked Ozma.

“Eight personal guards, another three part of Skyhold Security,” Ozma informed him, and Warin grumbled. That was half what was normally stationed within shouting distance of the quarters.

“Okay, Aslaug take the three Skyhold Guards, and Ozma give them four of our guards, we will gather more as we move. Have…”

“Reinforcements have already begun to move off the ‘Ice Hammer’ and working their way here.

Warin nodded, “Okay good.” He said, and than moved to his wife and kissed her. “Wait one minute, and than make fore my father, understand?”

Beth nodded, and Warin looked at Aslaug, and gave her a quick nod before he turned away, and moved through their quarters, and than into the outside corridor.

Warin could see the damage from weapons fire, several dead bodies lay twisted, and broken on the floor, most of them, but not all were dressed in ragged, and unfamiliar uniforms, but one wore the blue, and one of his personal guard, while others wore the blue and gold of the Skyhold Guards, the colors of the old kingdom of Umbria.

They moved quickly through the corridor, moving through sections of the Star Fortress that Warin had known since his time as kid. Bodies lay dead here, and there no matter where they went.

“The Command Center is under attack,” Ozma told Warin, and he nodded.

They reached one of the entrances to the command center, and the sound of weapons fire were no stop. Warin spotted the destroyed turrets as the enemy moved towards closer and closer to the command center. They could never take full command of the Star Fortress so long as they didn’t control the throne room or his father, but they could cause massive damage and losses.

There were more Skyhold Security forces dead than anywhere else. Even some of his own special posted guards lay dead on the floor, but the sounds of weapons fire meant that the Command Center hadn’t fallen, and Warin pushed himself forward with Ozma, and the guard which had followed and joined him. They pushed down the corridor, and the sounds of fighting got louder.

Warin saw several enemies with their backs to him as they opened fire on security forces in defended position. He stood aim with his rifle, and opened fire along with Ozma, and the others. They didn’t even get a chance to turn to know they were dead before the railgun fire ripped through their armor-less bodies.

“Fuck are we glad to see you,” an unnamed guardsmen said as Warin made his way into the Command center. “We have attacks at multiple sites across the fortress, but they are all being pushed back.”

“Good,” Warin said. “Have you heard from my father?”

The guardsmann nodded. “The System-lord is security in the throne room with his personal guards. They didn’t get close to him ser.”

Warin looked at the display which showed the red dots of enemies throughout the fortress, there were less than he thought there would be, but wondered how many there had been. “Dispatch forces here, and here,” he said to the guardsmann. “Cut them off, and by the Ancestors tell them I want prisoners, but don’t risk their lives, but I want to know who the fuck is behind this.”

“Yes ser,” the guardsmann said.

“Warin,” Ozma called out as she held the ear piece with a finger.

“What?” Warin asked with a tilt of his head.

“Holderness is under attack.”
