Blair

“Can I help you my queen?” King’s Guard Zena Asher asked Blair as she reached out to place her hand on the stone wall of the estate to balance herself.

“Oh no,” Blair responded kindly. “I’ve just got to learn how to steady myself again it would seem,” she said, and looked at the King’s Guard which seemed to follow Blair everywhere she went. She let out a small laugh. “I thought I would teach a child how to walk, not have to relearn it myself.”

Zena smiled at Blair in her shining armor. “Would you like for me to get the doctor?”

“No, no,” Blair said with a wave of her hand, and steadied herself on her own two feet. “It’s nothing that isn’t normal. Each week there is something new. This week a little more unbalanced, and my eyes seem to be forever dry no matter what the doctor gives me.” Blair let out a sigh. “The joys of pregnancy.”

“Yes, the joys of pregnancy,” Zena replied dryly.

Blair gave a small laugh, and wondered if the King’s Guard would ever give birth. “It’s not all bad,” she told the older woman.

“If you say so my queen,” Zena replied.

Blair smiled again. “Truly it’s not. Just a few days I began to feel her kick for the first time.”

“Her?” Zena asked with a curious raised eyebrow.

Blair nodded. “Yes, we found out a little over a week ago.”

“I am happy for you, my queen,” Zena said with what Blair thought was a genuine smile.

“Thank you Zena,” Blair said with her own matching smile. “And let’s keep this between you, and myself if you will. Ansel is more protective than even herself. He’s have me taking a dozen treatments to try and cure what women have gone through for thousands of years.”

“Yes my queen,” Zena replied with a smirk.

“It is a beautiful estate,” Blair continued as she looked at the stone walls decorated with painting.

“I’ll be glad to be back on the ‘Royal Dragon’ and heading to the next stop before we return to Bastion,,” Zena told Blair, before she cleared her throat. “But yes, your estate is nice, but I would rather you, and the king were back on Bastion or at least the royal fleet where it were more secure.”

Blair smiled at her guardian. “One has to get out to stretch their legs,” she said. “I’ve never been so far from home, didn’t leave the home system much growing up, so this adventure,” she let out a long soft breath. “As much as I am sure it makes your, and all the King’s Guard job harder, well, I love it. If possible I would wish for it to last forever.”

“We will be leaving Anchorage tomorrow my queen,” Zena informed Blair as though she did not know. “And the King is not overly fond of such travel. He prefers the safety of Bastion himself, and so I do not expect these sort of adventures to be common.”

Blair nodded. She knew that as well. “Nor do I Zena, nor do I.”
