William

It was after noon by the time they reach the admin center. Will had been glad when Sam and Zoe had agreed not to stay any longer. His stomach had long ago started to growl at him for food, and Anders seemed to only get strength from the lack of food.

They decided on a local pub called The Broken Crown, and began to march their way through the large crowd down streets packed just as full as those that had arrived.

William wondered if they would even get a table at any pub when he thought to heard the sound of rail gun fire over the crowd.

He looked back in the crowd of people walking, and for a moment he realized the whole world had gone silent as people stopped.

Will reached for Sam with his hand, and took hold of her. The sounds of rail fire came alive in a series of blasts. Will turned as the crowd yelled and screamed. He looked for Anders to tell him to yell when his head exploded in gore over Will, Samantha, Zoe, and any other who stood near them.

He could hear the sound of Zoe yelling over the crowd above as chaos and panic set in. In one great movement the crowd began to run as more blasts rang out.

William felt someone bump into him, and lost Samantha’s hand. He snapped out of of the haze, and grabbed them by the hand. “Run!” he yelled and gave Zoe a shake until she looked at him.

He led them by the hand as shots rang out, and bodies fell in front and around them. His head spun none stop as he looked at his surrounding. Looked at the path ahead of them.

Will guided them quickly to the end of the street to the row of building that lined the street. He couldn’t hear anything over the chaos. He spotted a small door, and several bodies disappear inside.

“Come on!” Will yelled as he led Sam by the hand along the face of the building, and through the door.

He was breathing heavy as he took in the dark room. It was packed with people. He was breathing to heavy to see them all.

He felt a hand on his shoulder and spun to see Sam. “I lost Zoe,” she said.

Looked behind her and swore. Will grabbed Sam by the shoulders and looked at her. “Stay here,” he said, and rushed out the door into the crowd and sounds of small arms fire.

It didn’t take him long to spot Zoe, and Will ran towards her as he yelled her name. Will locked eyes with Zoe, and she made her way through the chaos of the running crowd.

Will reached out, and took her by the hand, and returned with her to the small building. He pulled Zoe in, and leaned over to catch his breath as other filled in the already cramped room.

As Will felt his breathing get easier, he could make out the sounds of yelling within the room.

“I said close the damn door,” a gruff voice cut through the chaos coming from outside.

“You can’t do this,” Will heard Samantha’s voice through the crowd.

William pushed his way through though gathered around a large desk. Samantha leaned against it as a young man sat behind it with an older man standing over him pistol in hand.

“Whoa whoa,” Will said with his hands up and walked slowly towards Samantha, and put her hands on her shoulder. “Let’s go.”

“No. We can’t close the door,” Samantha responded but Will pulled her back with little effort.

“I can’t risk them getting in here with my family,” the older man said, and Will nodded. He continued to pull Sam back as the door slide shut, and locked. He found Zoe, and Samantha dropped to her knees.

William continued to take in the room. There must have been two dozen of them in there. All frightened and scared. All he could hear was the sounds of people breathing, and sobbing as they tried to stay quite.

None of their Hand-helds could connect. The Networks were down or overloaded. For over an hour they sat in the silence of the room as sound from outside filtered in.

The old man remained at the desk as everyone had huddled down low. Will had joined him several times. Watched through the view screen on the desk mounted screen of security feeds both inside and outside the building.

He kept his eyes on the terror unfolding outside. Will had learned that he was a soldier on leave with his family.

Others would come and ask what they were going to do. The old man said the same thing every time. Wait. Will had explored the complex with several others as Samantha kept Zoe company.

The lockdown had locked them out of the upper floors. With none of their Hand-helds working, they had no way to try and override the system with the proper codes to input locally.

It was at least an hour of painful waiting when they first saw the attackers. They walked through the streets and fired in bodies that still moved.

To Will they looked like no military he had ever seen. Mismatched gear and slows. Their faces were covered with light masks. Some wore trench coats, well over walked with only a vest a pistol.

Within the span of another couple hours they saw no less the seven people cut down as they tried to flee through the streets or back alley.

Then the sound of an explosion sent shock waves through them. The room came to a panic.

William made his way back to the desk, and asked the old man what that was, but he had no answers. They stood, and stared at the screen as other explosions went off. One several minutes after the other.

The security feed was limited with it’s view. They could see the building opposite as well as the buildings on either side of them and across the street. One camera gave them a limited feed in the back.

The sounds of explosions were shortly filled with that of rail gun fire. People started to panic inside.

The attackers came in view at the entrance to one of the buildings. William watched as one walked up and placed something on the door, and walked away.

The explosion blew the door apart, and Will watched as several attackers rush in to small arms fire.

“We got to get out of here,” several people whispered.

“No,” the old man said. “They are flushing us out, we will be slaughter.”

William watched as several people were pulled out of the building and then executed.

“Fuck,” Will said. “We have to try it.”

“If they are waiting out there, we are dead.” The old man replied.

“Were dead if we stay in here.” William shouted at him and pointed to the screen as the attackers came closer to their position.

“Fuck,” the old man said, and tapped the desk several times to unlock the back door.

William turned and found Samantha and grabbed her by the hand. “Time to go,” he said and pulled her to her feet, along with Zoe. “Come one, we have go now,” he said as calm as he could and moved them as over likewise began to move.

Then they heard the thud as the device was planted on the door, and panic was set in. The explosion was the last thing he heard before darkness took him.
