Cassandra

The 10th had been stationed on Golden Reef for more than a month, and Cassandra couldn’t wait for it to end, or at the very least for something to happen. There had been several minor arrests, a couple locals with ties to the rebels which intelligence forces of the 10th had found, but there hadn’t been any trouble. Three or four members of the 10th had been thrown in the brig for fighting with locals, but otherwise it was peaceful.

Cassandra did enjoy the time they had off. The end of shift when they could relax and unwind, and on those days they went it planet side at some small town or other, the locals treated them kindly, and to her own surprise, with some respect. Not all did, but most.

There had even been time for Cassandra, and Edmund to sneak away and enjoy themselves. She knew others knew, but no one ever said anything, and so she enjoyed it well it lasted.

Most days Cassandra. And the retinue’s days were the same, the only difference was that there was a planet below them, and some of the 10th were policing it, or training. Rarely were they called up for such duties. When they were they aided one of the other retinue in running drills with the local militia, and at least those drills were a marked difference from the ones which they ran on ‘The Cave’.

There were days though that the General gave them permission for their own on planet training, as well as training in Drop-pods, Drop-ship, and shuttles. Cassandra hated those. She couldn’t escape them, they had to reach a planet somehow, or an enemy ship or station, but nothing made her want to vomit like a drop-pod, and even drop ships had the speed and maneuver to twist her stomach.

It wasn’t the worse contract she had been part of in her short career with the Jom though. So far it had been easy credits, and they would get paid if they fought or didn’t fight the rebels, and any rebel force would have had to be insane to strike the system while the 10th, and it’s Star Carrier was in orbit and system.

Golden Reef wasn’t a bad world either, it had it’s charms, even if it was infested by Bolgars. A peaceful contract, even among the Bolgars was better than a deadly one Cassandra had to admit, although there would be no reputation, no chance to earn your name, and make your mark on the galaxy. Peace was good, but peace didn’t make legends, or keep your day in the mouth of those who came after you. Peace had it’s place, but Cassandra was young, she wanted to prove herself, and be remembers with the best of those who had served in the Jom. She wanted people to remember her name, and no one would remember Cassandra Tyr because she served on a peaceful world running training drills.
