Colonisation of the Lesser Field
For the last nine hundred years several major forces in the Milky Way have attempted to claim and colonise as many planets in the Lesser Field as possible. With the Lesser Field's distinct lack of sophonts and abundance of planets, legally claiming these celestial bodies is a simple process, and expanding one's territory is the primary goal of countless civilisations across the galaxy.
Colonising new planets is not a recent occurrence, but this specific race to claim the Lesser Field is fairly recent. As resources in the Greater Oasis are slowly becoming more scarce, the most dominant species all set their eyes on the Lesser Field and beyond, resulting in this race to claim new planets.
Lesser Field
The Lesser Field is a large section of the Milky Way, characterised by its almost complete absence of sophonts. About one in a hundred planets have a native sophont, compared to the Greater Oasis, where the rate is almost one in two.
Being one of the largest sectors of the galaxy, it has roughly a hundred billion stars and six times as many planets.
The most abundant people in the Lesser Field are the suaians, natives of Sua, a small moon orbiting Milionas. Despite their tiny home, their population experienced a boom after venturing into space.
Suaians have pushed back against invading forces from the Greater Oasis, successfully protecting hundreds of planets in the process. Sadly, thousands have been claimed, and many civilisations have been lost to intruders.
Major Forces
Karkhala
Karkhala and its subsidiary organisations have stormed its way through the Lesser Field. The oanie are intergalactical war soldiers, claiming planets wherever they can, using whatever means possible to take what they believe they rightfully deserve.
The oanie stop at nothing to expand their territories and build up a kingdom that cannot be rivalled. They continue to stoop lower to achieve what others wouldn't dare even think about. Karkhala has claimed over nine thousand planets in the Lesser Field in the last millennia.
Saturn
The pretty pinks of Saturn's atmosphere hide a troublesome reputation. Saturnian invasion of other planets has largely gone unnoticed.
While the world is concerned with the oanie and the havoc they wreak on the Milky Way, saturnians have snuck around and claimed several hundred planets as their own. Saturn has acquired 399 planets in the Lesser Field.
Razhea Capita
Unlike Karkhala and Saturn, Razhea Capita is mostly concerned with protecting vital knowledge, information, and data. Razheans are the most widespread species in the Milky Way, and they have wiggled their way onto sixty thousand planets in the Lesser Field. Razhea Capita has acquired ten times the planets all the other competitors have, combined.
This is in order to preserve natural environments, and to protect native peoples and places, acquiring knowledge of these new environments. This information is stored in Mastermind, an Artificial Intelligence system, the basis of razhean civilisation.
Maresa
Maresa is closely aligned with Razhea Capita, as far as morals are concerned. The planet has transformed into a refuge for lost denizens of the Milky Way, but its population cap has now exceeded, and the Maresa Space Legion is looking for new places to call home.
A hundred planets are used as secondary civilisations for Maresa, with Space Gates transporting people from one to another. Another five hundred planets in the Lesser Field are Maresan property, on lockdown to prevent delicate ecosystems from collapsing.
Civilisation Collapse
The Lesser Field has often been neglected, especially in relation to intergalactic politics. Often considered a Dead Zone thanks to its lack of sophontic life compared to other regions in the Milky Way, its people are not protected. If a civilisation collapses, even wiped out by another species, it is swept under the rug. If the same thing happened in the Greater Oasis, however, there would be severe consequences.
An estimated ten trillion lives, over a thousand sophontic species, have been lost in this race to claim the Lesser Field's planets. The complete disregard for life in the Lesser Field has enabled competitive forces to annihilate whatever sophontic life exists there, claiming planet after planet with little to no difficulty.
A handful of razheans have attempted to reverse the flow of time in order to gather information on these extinct civilisations, but none can escape the curse of being time ripped. The loss of trillions fuels both Razhea Capita and Maresa to work harder and protect more planets and peoples across the Lesser Field, from dangerous forces, like Karkhala and Saturn.
Significant Planets
Ouri Anett
Ouri Anett is an incredibly dense seraphenic planet. Its molten tarsarium core was made from an asteroid that collided with a labyrinth sea six billion years ago. Karkhala and Maresa fought for this planet, the latter proving victorious.Aheiii
Aheiii was once a prosperous planet. It was discovered by Maresan exoscientists, and the planet became the first test site of a Space Gate. The gravity-wielding machine was intiated on the planet's surface, and caused a mini black hole to manifest, wiping out the entire sixty million population.Razhea Optima
Razeah Optima is a tertiary colony for the razhean species. After Razhea Excluda exceeded its population cap, residents migrated to Razhea Optima. The planet's comfortable climate and mountainous terrains makes for a gorgeous holiday destination.Auramontes
Auramontes is best known for its mountain of gold. The region is packed with absentite, a mineral ore containing high amounts of gold. Both Saturn and Razhea Capita discovered the planet at the same time, leading to a prolonged legal battle for custody. Saturn won the rights to the planet.Ellestrii
This planet was named after ellestriite, a valuable metal. The powder version of ellestriite is used as spacecraft fuel, and Karkhalan mining companies have stripped the planet clean.Heneo
Heneo is the only planet in the Lesser Field Rubrinea has claimed. A rubrinean explorer craft wildly off course just happened to discover Heneo, and its bright red rings were a charming sight. Little did they realise the planet was home to a species of incredibly powerful pseudo-sophont, that rubrineans have now formed a friendship with.Karkhala

It is very sad times for the Milky Way :( at least some people are claiming planets to protect them! We can always count on razheans and maresans :D
