I wonder if Eldon used the cannons from Château Mathéo to bring it down?"Berga is a barony located in southeast of the Duchy of Fairden, itself part of the Kingdom of Cassel. It is border to the south by the Barony of Valier which is part of the Duchy of Aeris. It is bordered to the West by the Valley of Kings and the Barony of Roy, to the northwest by Agennum and to the north by Marsan. To the east is Tornor Bay.
The vast majority of Berga has a warm oceanic climate and snow is quite rare there. The wide open grassy plains are excellent for raising cattle and sheep. Most livestock raised here and sent north to Marsan, to a town called Jennyton to be counted, slaughtered, and processed before the meat, leather, milk, and other products are sent to the rest of Cassel. The west of Berga has a more continental climate and forests are found along the Gilded Peaks to the west. Iron and copper can be found in these mountains in great amounts and quite a large number of mines are densely scattered around a small area.
The capital city of Veneti is at the mouth of the Sombre River. Across this river to the north is the Fortress City of Lornar, the capital of Marsan, Fairden, and the rest of North Cassel. Veneti is also a fortress city, and still has many of its wall built up. On the extreme northeastern edge of the city is a large castle named Château Mathéo. Lining its walls are quite a few cannons that protects the harbors of both cities as well as the Sombre river from invasions.

Château Mathéo
Construction of this castle was started in the year 2225 after Berga was officially incorporated into the Kingdom of Cassel. It was built for the appointed lord of Berga at the time, Baron Isaac Mathéo, who named the castle after himself. It quickly had to be fortified due to an invastion from Yurrimkil.
As the castle guards the entrance to the Sombre River, it has been targeted in numerous wars and invasions. It has been burned down once in 2311, and in 2617 a large magical explosion leveled the original fortifications. The Ruler of Cassel at the time, Queen Palmira Vernador, ordered the construction of new fortifications.
Construction took nearly 20 years but the result was a powerful fortress that has withstood over a dozen invasions and still stands to this day. Several advances in technology were integrated into the castle. The entire outer walls are covered in several layers of limestone. This guards well against cannon fire but more importantly renders the walls almost immune to magical attacks.
The current lord of the castle is the ruler of the province, Baron Brioc Aubert. Brioc doesn't really care much whether North Cassel has its own king or if it stayed unified forever, as long as he gets to maintain control over the Sombre River, where all commerce in the Duchy of Fairden passes.
"I've had to meet Brioc several times before I ran away. He is a slimy, greedy fool. He's also allied with the Ferretors who are no allies of the Vernador royal family. He will not help us. He'll probably try to have me killed if he finds out I'm Vyerin! Let's avoid the castle and go around... very, very far around."
