"Oh gods, this is amazing! Saya, why didn't you ever tell me this was so good!?! The Ferretors might be terrible, but...mmmh! The apples here!"

Valier is a Barony located in the northwest of the County of Aeris inside the Kingdom of North Cassel. It is bordered on the north by Berga, and the south by Aston. To the east is Tornor Bay. The lowlands here is warm and wet year round and snow is pretty rare the closer to the coast you are. The higher elevation hills that form the border with Aston are colder and snow is more likely.

Like most of the County of Aeris, Valier is a very wet, rainy place. the majority of the land consists of low lying forests and marshes. There isn't much in way of mineral resources. The province is well known for its fruit growing and the trees here produce excellent woods. Valier's main export is apples, followed by pears, and plums. Old trees are cut into logs and shipped to parts of Cassel that are better as processing wood such as Marsan, where the logs are turned into stocks for rifles or used for wands, spears, and staves.

The capital city Maluville is located in the center of the province, high on a hill overlooking the flatlands all around. The city seems to have more nobles living there than anyone who produces anything and with the lack of working class people, the manufacturing capacity of the city is almost nonexistent. Workers have to be imported regularly for construction projects.

Torian Manor

Located on the wetlands near the coast, Torian Manor is a smaller castle, built about two centuries ago. It is built on top of the remains of an old Bronze Age watchtower. It is one of the few examples of a brick castle in Cassel. Those are much more popular in the Kingdom of Galleska, and it was a nobleman from Galleska that had this particular castle built before it came under the control of the Ferretor family.

The castle might seem defenseless but the waters surrounding the castle are rather shallow. Just deep enough to prevent people from getting a proper foothold as they walk across but just shallow enough to prevent anything but small boats from crossing. The Ferretors take pride in the fact this castle has never been taken over by anyone, but that's more because this place has little strategic value and no one has even tried to take it over. The fortress in Maluville has been attacked numerous times over the last thousand years by comparison.

Apples

Valier is known for growing Apples, specifically one variety, the Mana Stripe. this apple will change its properties in the presence of mana. When fully charged the apple is completely red and is a very sweet tasting apple. When there is no mana the apple is almost white and tastes somewhat sour. When partially charged the fruit develops red stripes, which is where it got its name.

Many fruits can be used for short term mana storage, lasting several weeks to several months depending on the climate and how the fruits were preserved. Fruits with tougher outer skins like appled can also be charged with aethercite to make a specific effect happen. Most of the county of Aeris has its minerals buried deep in the ground and the technology to extract these minerals was only recently developed, so for thousands of years, the people here used various fruits and other things for magic storage compared to other places that have very expensive aethercite crystals.

Most people don't care for the gimmick of the tast changing aspect of the apples, but some people are drawn to them, especially mages that are constantly mana-starved. The taste is described as divine regardless of wheither it is sweet, sour, or inbetween.
