"I visited the Phoenix Monastery once about a decade ago. There were a dozen Phoenix birds roosting there and there were many pilgrims climbing steep and dangerous mountains to see these birds.

It was nice...it was also a burning hell with the volcanic lake a few hundred meters below the monastery, but it was still nice!"

The Barony of Ardens is a landlocked area located in cenral Lyonne. It is bordered to the south by the Baronies of Canillo, Aldarra, and Orthez of South Cassel. In Lyonne, starting from the west and going clockwise, it is bordered by every barony in Lyonne, including Dryadalis, Sylva Lucus, Nivalis, Gelum, and Terminus. the only barony in Lyonne is doesn't share a border with is Boreotis.

Ardens is a mountainous province with many forested valleys. The Red Towers, a volcanic mountain range, takes up a large portion of the land area. The northern and western edges of Ardens is a flatter plain with plenty of farmland. The primary products of Ardens include grains like Rye as well as a large variety of Aethercite crystals.

Ardens is an area subject to the Corruption of Xiralgus, the Nova, and ancient Dragon Lord. Parts of the land can randomly and rapidly increase in temperature and there are many varieties of creature imbued with fire magic. the corruption here is considered to be very minor compared to the boiling sea, located several hundred miles to the east.

The Phoenix Monastery

Located in the southeastern part of the barony, a few miles from the border with Terminus, is Mount Cendi. At 6092 meters tall, it is one of the seven great mountains of Cassel. on the southern slope of this mountain is an active lava lake that regularly spews lava fountains several hundred meters high. On the summit of this peak is a Monastery or Elven healers that claim to have learned powerful magic from the Phoenixes themselves.

Over a dozen phoenixes are known to roost here, though usually they are inside the Mount Cendi Lava Lake, doing unknown things. Are they just swimming? do they hunt down there? Is it a portal to another world, maybe the The Moon Izi, the domain of the god Beirunes? As there are very few ways to survive a dip in boiling hot lava for more than a few seconds, no one is able to yet prove if the lake is a portal or not.
