There are few places on Urvén where a priest, a herbalist and a unicorn will be involved in the same process. It sounds like the setup for a bad joke! Their work is, of course, exemplary, the Mercy House has performed wonders that leave neighboring countries in a great debt.

Since a large share of medical treatment within Urvén is magical, Thir Met runs a hospital on its outskirts right on the border of its antimagic zone. This hospital, The Mercy House, is a straight shot from the city of Thir Met itself - roughly twenty miles of well-paved road to rush important patients along. It has become one of the most renowned healing houses within the Riven Lands due to the mix of staff and experts it has attracted. As a neutral place, alchemists, priests, people skilled in nature magics and even a few creatures with natural healing magics work together to aid patients. More conventional surgeons aid in the long term care of patients and are essential for the triage process performed before patients reach the hospital.

The Mercy House has an extensive academic wing containing alchemical laboratories, a botanical garden and a library for those interested in the study of physical cures. Individuals may study, train and practice medicine within, receiving the honorific title of Chirurgeon on completion.

Most treatments within are performed as charity, funded partially by Thir Met and partially by donations from generous patrons and previous patients. However, treatments requiring expensive reagents or spell components are more likely to require compensation.

Architecture

Originally, The Mercy House was a light stone construction in a rough "L" shape. The long edge containing rooms of beds for patients and the short edge containing the academic and staffing facilities. It has grown considerably over the years with additional wings, outbuildings and a large greenhouse as part of the botanical gardens. In addition, the small camp town of Benevolence has formed nearby containing medical refugees and those seeking long term treatments.

History

The Mercy House was constructed shortly after the city-state of Thir Met was founded and had begun the traditions of high level martial training and gladatorial combat. There was a requirement for healing those injured so a tax was placed on gambling to fund the new construction. Within just a few decades, the hospital had a strong enough reputation that healers from around Sondrana began arriving to hone their craft.
