Xalarin Council
A faction that is highly xenophobic.
Although the Xalarin council actually is nearly a utopia depending on perspective with the exception of racism being heavily present, genetic modification of their own kind and some of their sentient robots being used for slave labor (they do it carefully), the individuals of the Xalarin actually enjoy very high living standards and given many rights. Admittedly, propaganda helped a lot here.
Some rare elements of their society have broken off from the Xalarin Council to attempt to improve relations between the Council and the various alien factions. They have not seen much success, though, as xenophobia is deeply rooted in their culture. These groups do not side with aliens against the Xalarin; they exist for the betterment of both and not just the aliens.
As such, it is evident they are not a perfect society, even if quite close. The Council is named such as it is run by a large council in a system remniscient of an oligarchy. However, particular parties are voted on democratically. After election, a party is kept in power for about 2 years before a new one is elected. One party can run an unlimited times, and when not in power they can help the party in power with various political tasks - or oppose them. In the latter case, they would often launch campaigns against the status quo. They have a level of technology that is advanced, but not as advanced as that of the Hyperion Federation. The Xalarin society is experimenting with their first antimatter powered starships. These are only used in their most advanced warships, in development until 43997. They only have few of these.
These antimatter drives are not as advanced or safe as those of HF. They are still a large advancement from fusion drives.
The XC makes copious use out of Quark-Gluon Plasma Reactors. They provide an excellent middle ground reactor between antimatter and fusion power, even thuogh they are very expeisive to run. The common use of these reactors closes the technological gap between themselves and the HF more than any other faction, including the Cypher Dominion which invented the quark-gluon plasma reactor. They have been made xenophobic because their society was attacked several times by aliens. This only increased their xenophobia, giving aliens more reason to attack them, further increasing xenophobia.
They aim to eradicate all aliens in the universe which in their minds is needed to keep the universe safe and preserve peace. Despite this, and conrtary to poular belief, their armed forces do accept surrender from other species even though they are not their own. If aliens end up in their space, most likely as prisoner, they will surprisingly not treat the person that badly. They are kept alive with decent living conditions even, as the Xalarin see themselves as reasonable. Of course, they remove every small chance that a rebellion could happen.
In return for hospitality, captured aliens can also provide information and possibly some scientific experiments to the Xalarin. Experiments causing harm to the subject are rare, but they do sometimes happen.
