Tranal Nomads
Nomadic major faction that is never seen creating permanent colonies.
The Tranal Nomads, instead of inhabiting planets to live on and mine, use immense starships, called worldships. These are capable of intergalactic travel, making the TN a surprisingly strong faction. They endlessly travel the stars, moving to and from the borders of almost every other faction, constantly trading. The reason that they do this is their primary species, Banfranal, are not capable of inhabiting planets - they are an engineered lifeform born through the Xadia Ancients. The Xadiia constructed the first worldship - N.T.S. Dawn - from which the TN would build more. Although currently there is no worldship larger than the first, the TN are expanding and may eventually construct huge worldships that are as large - or even larger - than the first.
Even if they could inhabit planets, their culture prohibits them from doing so. They see planetary life as extremely vulnerable, a major problem which could be easily fixed with a bit of mobility.
Surprisingly, the TN has border access with most other major factions except the HEX Mainframe, Cypher Dominion and their mirror universe versions. They have formed good relations to each faction, largely through trading. Though to travel into Hyperion Federation borders, they are under tighter security as to not leak the HF technology.
Their population has unique needs. Although they are technically treated well, many other factions might think the TN is dystopian. In reality, it has decent living conditions.Despite the low gravity of almost all TN starships, several other species also inhabit their population. Their bones would usually weaken, though. The TN understands that the needs of these species are different, and they try their best to adopt good living standards for them, though not perfect. The TN does not only operate worldships. They can construct various military ships, and other smaller ships. The military ships are mostly used for peacekeeping and for defence against the HM and CD.
Although the TN largely prefers to be peaceful and trading with every faction, not every faction is willing to be peaceful to the TN. For example, the HM which wants to assimilate all organic species into itself and the Cypher Dominion which is obsessed with endless conquest through war. As such, they have suffered massive attacks from both. Perhaps the most significant of these was the first contact TN-HM crisis where billions of TN lives were lost to the HM (many of those were assimilated), which made them more careful in first contact scenarios such as that. Now they will never deploy worldships to a first contact until it is evident that the other side holds no agression.
This has also made it quite obvious to the TN that they would require a large, advanced military to defend themselves. By making use of their Negative Mass Reactor technologies, they can achieve excellent acceleration, and thus tend to rely on speed in battle. However, in case their starships are hit, they are designed with excellent levels of redundancy and compartmentalisation, so penetrating a TN ship will very rarely be enough to destroy it entirely. This makes them a powerful foe on the battlefield despite their relatively low tech nature, when compared to other intergalactic factions anyway.
