The Elves of New Genesis are an ancient and highly magic-dependent race. They care little for life outside of their island home of Leifland, beyond the safety of their Mythal. Amaxanaphia (StarShine in Common), the capital city of the Elves, glows with an inner, ephemeral light. The living crystal towers that make up the most of the downtown area of the city are grown and shaped into fantastic, otherworldly shapes. The magic of the Elves is so ubiquitous in their lives that the average elf looks upon the rest of New Genesis with pity. How can sentient creatures live in such un-evolved and unenlightened civilizations? Elven magic borders on the sci-fi. With moving pictures of light that appear on magically treated metal plates, sounding stones that allow instant communication with any other Elf in range, and with even the least well-off Elf never having to worry about food or shelter, the Elves have little need of the world beyond their Mythal. The Elves seen out in the known world are usually there for a reason... whether out of boredom with the effortless life in Liefland, having been exiled, or, they simply prefer the environs of their homeland. High Elves are considered to be the most common subrace of Elves in NewGen and also make up the majority of Elves on Liefland. The other subraces are far more likely to reside in the known world, within their ancestral lands; Aquatic Elves in their undersea kingdoms, Wood Elves in their hidden, primal forests, etc. Elven Sub-Races include:
- Moon (Gray)
- Wood (Green)
- Golden (Sun)
- Aquatic (Sea)
- Drow (Dark)
- Shadow (Shadar-kai)
Each of of the Elven SubRaces have their own morphologies, but all Elves share a few basic traits. Large, pointed ears (some subtle, but some with ears that extend over the top of the head), almond-shaped eyes (often of vibrant and unusual colors), high cheek bones, smooth, timeless-looking skin, straight, silky hair and lithe, naturally athletic builds are all universally recognized Elven physical traits. Another often overlooked trait is that Elves of NewGen have only 4 fingers... 3 fingers and a thumb, unlike all of the 'lower' Races, with the exception of Zamberians. To Elven eyes, having 5 fingers make the hands of other Races look primitive, and animalistic, almost paw-like. Half-Elves have a roughly 50-50 chance of having 4 or 5 fingers on each hand.
