The Elsewhere

Introduced in Chapter 26: Looming Threats in The Great Tree: Soft and Subtle Wind

As seen in
When all is taken, held to the rippled lake. Cherish what you have been able to keep, for which we know the fragility of what we have made. The polyphonic mind in which we breathed life into what mattered. What could we have done? What could I have done? Let all not be for insignificany. But, that mirror, when all else has failed, what do you do when the reflection blinks back?
A quiet noise. Vibrate and warp the song we wrote. One for the lost that which we needed and shattered the skies. One for the stars to fade away, an evaporating of beauty left in the world. One for patients lost, seas left to roil. Taken by a mockery, warping the songs we breated life into. Our polyphonic resonance, quieter than the last. The weight of the lives we built, the bridge to crumble.

I couldn't hold it. I needed them as much as they needed us. The tethered, our gifts to the song, forsaken in desperation. The least I could do, a new Hymn for them. My voice shaken and broken, the songtress I was not. A hoval, makeshift and incomplete. Fear for the spark, fear for the heart of it. Absolution antithetical to I.
  -The Lament of The Queen

Culture

While much of the Children's cultures have remained intact from the time they called themselves The Namoux, a dominating force that has taken to much of the regions sensibilities has been the Legion of Syn. The Former Goddess of the Faeries Military arm during the War with the Shadows. As such, the culture has become very Military and Hierarchy oriented, as such Anlyth, First Son of Syn has become a somewhat defacto Dictator that rules the pocket dimension in the Queen's many absences. Anlyth would never claim the crown from her, he doesn't want it. If he would be asked what his role is, he would tell you that he is merely a Regent, or claim his old title of Arch Valkyrie.

The Elsewhere is unified under the Queen and her sacrifices made for them, though many of their commands come from Anlyth, Taneth and Y'vitol as also major sources of authority inside the Elsewhere in the Queen's many absences. Much of what the Denizens do throughout their long slumber, has been searching for any information on the world they left behind, as well as hunting down ways to regain their lost power. Though, lost on many of the children, simply existing long enough, gains much of their power back. As such much of their culture is entirely centered around gaining information of any kind that might be helpful to them. As such Guilds like the Wayfares, The Sightless, the Riders of the Distant Storm, and emissaries of various nationalities have been made or chosen. Notable members of the Emissaries are Gjorn Fourth king of Dwarves and The Sage of Huron: Emily Von Eule as well as much later on the entire Goblins of the Skullbrood Clan.

It should be noted that beacuse the Children have been cut off from the SHattered lands for so long, they have an odd sense of timelessness to them. As well as having an extremely difficulty telling time as much of the Elsewhere exists in a stasis.

History

The plane of existence created by the Queen of the Fae after she S̷̥̺͆̆̽̎͝͠h̴̨̡͑͑̎͆͆́͆͆͝.̸͔͉̻̤͔͚̼̟͖͋̇̀́̏̍̚͝ȃ̵̗̹̘̯̓̇̉͒̾̀̋̈́̈͋͝͠ţ̶̥̬̦̙͇͖̳̲͎̮͒̂͆̓̓̋̿̀̏͐̉͜͝_̸̖̤̠̈́̅͊́̈́̽̈́́̏͆̈͘͠͠t̶̠̠̾̃͛ẹ̸̡̝͔̣̃̎͊͗̎̈͋̅͗̾r̵͍̘̐̓͒̍̓͊̃̒͂͒͂̈́̍̚e̵̛̟̦͋ḑ̶̠͕͇̱͉͕͌̏͋̊͌̔̃͝ͅ the old world to escape the Shadows, grabbing as many of the unchanged children as she could. Lamenting to her very core that she could not grab any of V̸̧̪͖̟̥̦͖͔̖͙̣̞̌̑̓̚*̵̻̟͉͈̪̱̱͑͌̋͛͐̍̋͜ͅl̷͍͎̗̮̭̽̽́̂͑̊͒̽̈̉̋͝ò̴̩̰̩͙̩̤͔͌͐͗͆͐̌̂͗̉͂r̷̛̛̖̙͇͚̋̈́̋̔̔̅͑́̿̍͒͝?̸̡͍̖̯͈̫̣͙̾͋̌̈́͝ͅi̸̢̧̛̦͉̞̞̥͈̓͛̿́̓̈́̎̄̆͗̕͘͜͝ţ̶̨͍̳̩̗̼̝̟͍̖͖̺̻̋͂͛͋h̷̛͇͙̞͎͎̜̲̓͊̄̅̎̓̇̂̅̔̂̔'s children to save them. In this plane are: the Original Faeries, Fae and Giants still at their full strength. Their Sparks of divinity never having faded.

The Queen has done her best to create a world in which they can live happy lives, though they are broken pieces of reality, as she doesn't have the same capabilities that her fallen siblings had. For example, The Queen cannot create new matter, she had to take as much as she could from the S̷̥̺͆̆̽̎͝͠h̴̨̡͑͑̎͆͆́͆͆͝.̸͔͉̻̤͔͚̼̟͖͋̇̀́̏̍̚͝ȃ̵̗̹̘̯̓̇̉͒̾̀̋̈́̈͋͝͠ţ̶̥̬̦̙͇͖̳̲͎̮͒̂͆̓̓̋̿̀̏͐̉͜͝_̸̖̤̠̈́̅͊́̈́̽̈́́̏͆̈͘͠͠t̶̠̠̾̃͛ẹ̸̡̝͔̣̃̎͊͗̎̈͋̅͗̾r̵͍̘̐̓͒̍̓͊̃̒͂͒͂̈́̍̚e̵̛̟̦͋ḑ̶̠͕͇̱͉͕͌̏͋̊͌̔̃͝ͅ world as she escaped. While the plane is by no means small, it is not a universe. It has finite borders, with only one hidden tether to the S̷̥̺͆̆̽̎͝͠h̴̨̡͑͑̎͆͆́͆͆͝.̸͔͉̻̤͔͚̼̟͖͋̇̀́̏̍̚͝ȃ̵̗̹̘̯̓̇̉͒̾̀̋̈́̈͋͝͠ţ̶̥̬̦̙͇͖̳̲͎̮͒̂͆̓̓̋̿̀̏͐̉͜͝_̸̖̤̠̈́̅͊́̈́̽̈́́̏͆̈͘͠͠t̶̠̠̾̃͛ẹ̸̡̝͔̣̃̎͊͗̎̈͋̅͗̾r̵͍̘̐̓͒̍̓͊̃̒͂͒͂̈́̍̚e̵̛̟̦͋ḑ̶̠͕͇̱͉͕͌̏͋̊͌̔̃͝ͅ world that the Shadows have never found...yet.

In reality, the Elsewhere was created out of a desperate attempt to escape at cataclysm of cosmic scale, to which they succeeded, though a great toll was paid. The three fledgling gods that The Quartet had nurtured, they just happened to be the first of their Children to reach the end goal they had planned, had willing given their divinity to aid their last surviving Mother to create the Elsewhere as a safe haven. Taneth, and Anlyth and fully given their might to the creation process, though Y'vitol was stopped from doing so. The Queen had given the bulk of her power to safeguarding and shattering the world they left behind to hide them from their enemies.

A strange world was created, one that held much of the engines and physics that the Quartet had built, much of their magic remained as well, though to an extremely limited extent. The Queen was never expected to know how much of her siblings power she needed to hold this pocket dimension together, feeling the full of the Quartet's responsibility on her shoulders alone. Though the children helped her, their power was much a dim ember to her brilliant sun of might. Far from being her equal, they still shaped their new world in ways that she could never have imagined herself.

The strangest thing about this place was that after its creation, was that they were well and truely cut off from their old world. As well as many of the old systems that the Queen needed to keep the plane stable, thus every ounce of power she regains she returns to the plane to keep it stable in the Tower of Alnya. She relies more and more heavily on the Children to keep everyone happy and growing, unable to do so herself for the most part. Having become this Fae Wild's heart, and for all intents and purposes, its engine. Chained to the world world she made to keep her siblings children safe, for her own children's sake.

To return to history we've lost.

This is such a cool bit of history. You didn't actually write much of it out and yet there is so much character and desperation in the Queen's portrayal and "The Elsewhere" is such a unique name for a Fae-Wild (which I presume is the essence of the Queen's domain)

The fire of Imagination burns in everyone, don't let reality quench it.

hmmmm, I would consider it like a kind of Fae-Wyld, but without the intentional maliciousness. Any monsters or hazards that exist here, are vestiges of its creation. This realm responds viscerally to The Queen's mood as well as a few select members of the Children. This is planned to be expanded, though I might leave this as an introduction so to speak, and write out more under various categories of The Elsewhere.   I am so happy you like it though! The Elsewhere is a literal sanctuary to The Queen and the Children. This place is elsewhere to The Great Tree, but not as far as one would assume :P
