Sweet Wine and Pleasant Company in The Great Tree | World Anvil

Sweet Wine and Pleasant Company

The stars slowly moved across the sky, making their patient sojourn in their own constant march. The nebulas that filled the vista swirled softly through the starlight, twinkling faintly. Dazzling green and orange clouds of the weather of the cosmos, accenting the deep violet of the night. Somewhere in the back of my mind, I wondered. "This can't be all for us. It's too vast."

The soft sound of the wind through the trees only complimented the peace I felt after a long day working. Content I was to sit in placid awe, with nothing else to do except admire the world in which was made of us. The stone bench on the outskirts of the CItadel was a frequented place by me as of late. The constant work of the city, the demands made on us by the creation, an ever growing task as the world grew larger. It grows on a man after a while.

The clunk of a bottle being set on the bench caught my attention. Turning I saw a Brownie levitating herself down onto the seat, she quickly wrapped her tail around my waist as they were wont to do. Their entire culture had a penchant for doing that, a quirk given to them by their goddess. "Our goddess I suppose." I thought to myself.

"To what do I owe the pleasure?" I asked her, as she uncorked the bottle. The subtle sweetness of the wine filled my nose.

She handed me the bottle, smiling. Her eyes echoed the night sky I watched, something about her was familiar, I just couldn't place it. Taking the wine, humoring her I took a drink. The soft floral and spice notes to it surprised me, some very high quality stuff. Turning, she was watching the sky as I had been.

Not wanting to break her own reverie, we sat in a companionable silence. Her warm tail was nice, I couldn't explain it. Somehow intrusive but welcome, like someone holding the door for you. Or someone simply being kind on a rainy day. Her chromatic hair shifted softly in the wind revealing more of her face, her eyes not having the markings around them like the rest of her race did.

"Excuse me, but my name is Aylywn. I am a Fae, it's nice to meet you. Thank you for sharing that wine with me, but what is your name?" I asked her.

She didn't take her eyes off the skies while she answered. "Oh, I'm someone you have known your entire life, yet have never met."

"I don't understand." I answered, cocking my head down at her.

Her eyes began to burn with the divine fire reserved for the gods themselves. Turning to me she spoke with a mellifluous sound as if she were singing her words. "My name is Vilorlith." My mouth fell open. The goddess of the Brownies here next to me, sharing a drink with...me. "Tell me about your day, Aylywn."
