Explain why there is an elf looking through my mirror! Why have you brought her before me?— Zalthor questioning Vrrosh
Vareena is a second-generation elf and a former member of
The Defenders of Akir. She is a survivor of
The Nightspawn Incursion. Most Elves who either lived through the arrival of
Goblins abhor anything to do with Demons. Vareena has broken taboo and joined
The Voidbound Cult in search of revenge and control.
Selfish Motivations
After her advances toward
Kyranos, The Fire Dragon, were spurned, Vareena's already cruel heart hardened. She had fought alongside Kyranos in several battles against Zalthor's legions of Shadow Demons and felt that he owed her a chance for romance. When her younger and kind-hearted sister captured Kyranos' heart instead, she lost all sense of reality and began traveling a dark road that no elf had ever considered.
Vareena learned about the deals that demons make through
Magic Mirrors and vowed to herself that she would infiltrate The Voidbound Cult to get what she wanted. Demonlords are very powerful and Zalthor was all too happy to make false promises to the scorned woman in exchange for her loyalty.
The Deal
Vrrosh, The Last Goblin used his telepathic abilities to help Vareena negotiate with Zalthor. While some of the cultists use
Mirrorsign when speaking with their Demonlord patron, Vrrosh did not have to rely on such measures to communicate with Zalthor on Vareena's behalf.
Vareena wanted two things from Zalthor in exchange for completing the
Voidbond and becoming one of Zalthor's Warlocks. She wanted Vallencia's heart to be broken and she wanted Zalthor to return Kyranos from an ambush at
The Void's Edge to Vareena under the Demonlord's control. She hoped the
Dragon would be forced into relations with her.
Every deal with a demon turns out badly and Vareena's deal was no exception. Zalthor killed Kyranos and created
Dragon Bloodstones from his dying body. He sent the bloodstones to Akir aboard three rocks, a powerful attack that caused
The Ashen Eclipse and The Infernal Deluge. Vallencia's heart did indeed break when news of her husband's death finally reached The Fire Clans on Akir's polar continent.
Corrupting Influence
While researching dark magics and enquiring among the Dwarves and Humans about
The Voidbound Cult, Vareena met a first-generation elf from The Equitorial Continent,
Ambroze. The journey through
Icewraith Expanse to reach
The Demonheart Vault was too dangerous for Vareena to make alone, so she convinced Ambroze to come with her.
Amateur Ritualist
While the Dwarves and Humans in the cult have nearly perfected the ritual to create
Vampires, Vareena's attempts have failed miserably. Ambroze was her only success. She continued to kill the Elves captured from a recent attack on nearby a
Loreweavers Festival without any hesitation or guilt.
Vareena sent
Ambroze, The Vampire, and
Spite, The Demon Dog, to capture her niece,
Ember. At first, the magic flowing through Ember's veins was the excuse the warlock used for taking the girl prisoner but it quickly became clear that she meant to destroy the young sorceress's spirit as well. Vareena has begun to use Ember's blood to power her rituals.
While Ember lives in the upper part of the prison under Vareena's watchful eye, Alkaine suffers in the dungeons of the prison. The Elves in the dungeon know their time is limited. They are used to feed the vampires created by the other Voidbound Cultists until it's their turn to die under Vareena's cruel and ineffective attempts to create a vampire army.
The Voice In Her Head
After taking The Final Vow, Vareena was telepathically connected to Zalthor. He gained the ability to read her thoughts at any time and continued to manipulate her emotions. Vareena cannot refuse any command from Zalthor and has lost her free will. She is now completely loyal to the Demonlord she pledged allegiance to.
I love how all the characters you have been working on are coming together in your story.
Thank you, Demongrey! I have been daydreaming of these characters for months. I have an overall story in mind but getting the entire plot outline next month is a little intimidating. I'm hoping that MetroMap helps me keep it all straight. :)
