Voidbond

Demons are masters of manipulation who are able to sometimes convince the Dwarves, Elves, Humans, and other folk in the world of Akir to denounce their ties to The Dreamer and declare allegiance to a Demonlord. To become a Warlock of great power requires a vile ritualistic ceremony known as a Voidbond. This is not a decision to be taken lightly as there is no way to break a Voidbond.
Lament and Horror. My regret is absolute.
— a disenfranchised warlock

The Deal

Lies, coercion, and extortion may have brought a cultist to the table, but the deal is always based on a bribe. The false promises of Demons are always a disappointment and the deals are never as good as they seem. Whatever the Demonlord has promised, the words have been twisted and have more than one meaning. There is enough truth in what they say to convince the cultist but few are able to fully discern the deception before it is too late.

The Voice

A Demonlord's voice can be heard directly in the mind of the Voidbound. There is no way to block out the Demonlord's commands nor to change the intended volume of such telepathy. They are impossible to ignore and incessant to the point of driving their followers mad.

Mental Intrusion

A Demonlord can read the thoughts of their Voidbound servants at any time. This adds even more power to their manipulations.

No Free Will

One of the highest costs of becoming a Demonlord's servant is the inability to resist their commands.
I will listen. I will obey.
— The Final Vow

The Voidbound Cult

Not all members of The Voidbound Cult are actual Warlocks bound to a Demonlord. Warlocks have taken The Final Vow and are considered to be of far greater importance than those who are not Voidbound. There is no official leader among the Warlocks and the number of Demonlords is vast. Individual sects are often oblivious to the activities of other members but coordinated attacks were commonplace during The Mirrorshade Insurrection.
I made the best deal. All I asked for was revenge. There's no way to screw that up.
— Vareena, The Warlock

Yeah, this seems like a terrible idea, but I guess some deals are just too tempting to resist. D: The section about the voice in the head is my favourite.

Just imagine if the Demonlord had an annoying voice. Maybe their cadence is weird or they screech too much. O' the madness!
