Season 1, Episode 6: "The Gorgon's Cell" Report
General Summary
Mining Team 6 watched as the Gorgon's Cell sprang to life, trapping them inside and opening the way to the Gorgon. But rather than a fierce S-Class criminal bent on world destruction, they found Ferro (also known as Chompsky, social media icon), and his partner-in-crime, Tera (currently on ice).
Chompsky was on alert at first meeting, but relaxed when he recognized Skiv, although he called the Tiefling "Zane". He seemed quite interested in Balio, and claimed to be his grandfather (of sorts). For a brief moment Chompsky seemed transfixed by Isra, but then apologized, as he "thought she was someone else". He then explained his own identity, claiming that he and Tera were framed by the real Gorgon, and that they've been trying to escape this "massive experiment" for three years. It seems that the Cell was built to both study and contain the pair, and improves with their every failed escape...
With initial greetings complete, the two parties got down to business. With Tera trapped in cryo, Chompsky claimed to be far weaker, and could not access his Bow, Staff, or the plane of Valhalla. While he did not elaborate, it appears the Barathu became aware of this weakness 6 months ago, when they trapped Tera in her cryo pod. The bed is strapped to a sophisticated land mine full of cold iron ball bearings, and can only be disarmed from the office of Captain Ohm. Chompsky agreed to give them a ship he owns (the Aga Jain), currently impounded on the The Jasper, if they helped him free Tera from the Cell. They all agreed, entering into a brief, but meaningful alliance. While Skiv did not seem excited to see the Ysoki, he could not elaborate due to his curse, and followed close behind.
Mining Team 6 guided Chompsky through several obstacles on their way through the Cell, finding that great power comes in small packages. Of note, they recovered a creature known as Ragarot, who seemed to hate the real Gorgon ("Mikhael" to Ragarot, or "Mike" to Chompsky) for disfiguring his face. Following a short discussion, he made a bonded pact with Chad - if the Barathu helped him escape Varos, then the Fey would owe him a life debt. Not long after, Chad placed a crown designed by Uma Pencile on his head, and had his brain scanned by the device. While it failed to gain access to his psychic profile, the Doctor seemed satisfied with the results, and silently opened the next door.
Just beyond the open gate, Isra found another window to the beyond, which seemed to connect to the collapsed pit where Mining Team 6 found the geometric key (in Mining Team 3's turf), Chompsky's cell, and a smooth box made of cold iron (likely designed to hold Fey prisoner). The last connection seemed to be especially tenuous, and thus Isra decided to leave the window alone - for now.
After clearing an electrical obstacle course and taking out the Fairy-Killer (version 319), the party reached the hangar, where Nylons were attempting to destroy the dropships that return them to the Jasper. Ragarot showed his true form, swallowing up the last of the Cell's defenses in a forest of black tentacles, and then the party boarded the surviving vessel.
The takeoff was a success - until Rastelviri crashed into the side of the dropship, sending it off-kilter and hurtling out into space. Seeing an opportunity, Chad jerked on the controls, crashing the ship into the Sauna, saving them from potential starvation out among the stars.
With little time before they could potentially find themselves surrounded, Mining Team 6 decided to burst out of the wreckage, and fight their way into the Warden's office. But instead of a lively prison, they found only empty hallways... The Warden, the sole creature on the satellite station, greeted them from behind his desk. He explained that all other personnel had been shipped to the Jasper for temporary holding, and that he had been expecting them to escape Varos. When asked why he stayed on the vessel, the Barathu smiled, and claimed:
"I am the Warden. I am the Captain of the Sauna, and I am the Sauna."
His office then erupted into a wave of flesh, swallowing the party whole, and knocking them unconscious.
