Season 1, Episode 5: "A Weekend on Varos" Report
General Summary
Mining Team 6 crashed into the side of Sauna Station, barely stopping their lethal descent to Varos, rattling everyone inside and knocking them unconscious. In their dreams, the party caught a glimpse of Balio and his younger brother Mist as children, followed by the tragedy that befell the crew of the Maelstrom.
In the midst of a nightmare, everything froze, and a shadow came to visit. It taunted Balio, dancing around the truth of his reality, goading him with secrets and the power to make it all right again. The creature was interrupted when a "Rider" emerged from the darkness, and shattered the nightmare (a full description can be read in Something Wicked This Way Comes).
Once conscious, the party found themselves in the smoldering ruins of their dropship, and quickly set to salvaging any and all supplies. Meanwhile, Skiv slipped away from the wreckage, and returned with many gifts, consisting of the gear from the old Mining Team 4, stashed away since their deaths. He warned that the Igxual were coming to investigate the disturbance, and the calls of the Raezzar and Rastelviri could clearly be heard in the distance.
They used a ramshackle Autoclaw to open the airlock on Sauna Station, and then proceeded to break into every computer, locker, and crate they could get their hands on. Mining Team 6 found a veritable wealth of supplies there (see "Reward Given" below), but likely not enough to survive the entire weekend. Still uncertain of where to go next, the decision was made for them when the Igxual ruptured a radiator tank, breaking the front airlock and shattering most of the exterior wall.
The hounds charged in, attempting to surround the party, but Mining Team 6 held firm in the halls, ending in a decisive blow from one of Balio's C4 charges. At last, they decided on a plan of action - to investigate the mystery of the Gorgon's Cell, and complete Chad's quest. While they narrowly avoided the two-headed Igxual and the Raezzar on the landing below, they did not escape the notice of Rastelviri.
In a mad dash, Skiv and Chad fired one of the coil guns directly at the Nylons protecting the front entrance of the Gorgon's Cell, clearing the path ahead. At the same time, Rastelviri unloaded a blast of fire into the broken station, destroying the insides, and threw the remains at Mining Team 6. The team narrowly escaped being crushed, and broke into a full-on sprint to safety. While they took hits from several near scrapes, they were able to hide underground before Rastelviri could get hold of them, and then quietly made their way towards the Gorgon...
At the gates, they found only a crater where the defenses had been, much to their satisfaction. After Lockette hacked into the cell's entry terminal, they were able to open the gates to the prison, revealing a single hallway ending in a set of double doors. Somewhat cautiously, they approached the terminal and were able to force the door. The station's pseudo-intelligence kicked in immediately, shifting walls and powering on Nylons on standby, locking Mining Team 6 in with the Gorgon.
Inside, they found a woman trapped inside a cryo tube, oblivious to her new visitors, and a mostly-empty room. They dug around for a while, clearing some of the traps laid within, but to no avail. Only upon interacting with the pod itself did the doors seal closed behind them, and a tiny Ysoki dropped from the ceiling, holding a tiny Solarion sword...
