Darsiac Ocean
Running along the western edge of the continent, from where it forms perpetually frozen flows of ice north of Forsythe's Point to the shark-infested tropical waters pf Glades Bay, the Darsiac Ocean is Tarien's largest known body of water. Its true size is unknown. How far does the ice extend in the north? What lies south of Kandar's Hook in the south? Many believe that it extends to the edge of the world. That border - be it mist or cliff - maybe in dispute but few would argue that the ocean itself is vast and largely unknowable. How else would it produce swells and waves of such size that they force all but the hardiest vessels from venturing beyond site of land. Those few brave or foolhardy souls have described strange lights that flash across the night sky, moving with preternatural swiftness. Most sailors claim these lights to be the eyes of either angels or devils, fighting an eternal battle in the land of setting sun.
This vast expanse of blue is also one of Tarien's great geographical regions, should scholars from the University of Karradone be believed. With little but waters ranging from blue to black, there is little of geographical note in the area. Beneath the waves a cacophony of life can be found with schools of fish ranging in size from a finger to a horse navigating the vast expanse. Large still are great pods of dolphins and whales tha feed on the fish and Jendredi knows what else. Sailors speak in whispers of still larger creatures - great dragons and krakken that rule the depths, preying on whales, ships, and anything else they may fancy.
A few islands with foreboding names like the Isle of Darkness and Wyrmling Isle break the surface, offering refuge to those who have lost their ships to a storm. These islands, however, are hundreds of leagues from civilization, far enough out that even the buccaneers that ply the waters around the Azermathian Subcontinent rarely visit them. Only the Island of the Setting Sun bears any signs of civilization. It is on this island and its mate, the Isle of Evergreen, that the small and isolated Duchy of Sternbalia has taken route, the last outpost of humanity on the border of Tarien.
