Mages

The War on Magic began after malicious wizardry assailed Orie Country within five years of the war with The Claw Continent's mages. Many speculate that if magical wars had ended in 1151 CD when peace was struck, the Mage profession would not have been outlawed. However, once the attacks began in 1155 CD, Craei Grecofoxas began his platform to stomp out magic. His position became so powerful, a rank in the Orie hierarchy was formed: The Grecodar. During his ascension into power, he convinced Bemere Tremaer, the Orie's ruler, to remove his magic-wielding advisors from their positions in his court.   As it stands, Mages are not legally permitted to practice in Orie Country. That does not, however, prevent them from practicing in Scayrus, the easternmost region of Orie Country. After Cordella Grove was released from prison by the presiding Grecodar, all anti-magic enforcement of the eastern territories in Orie Country left. In Scayrus, mages are welcome as long as they follow the guidelines of the Scayrun ethics system. While it is preferred that all in Scayrus follow Malmi religiously, the behavior is deemed greater than belief.   Before The War on Magic, many Mages were healers, alchemists, apothecary shop owners, and community problem-solvers. Now, people in those positions are scrutinized by their neighbors. If anything out of the ordinary or undesirable occurs, many Ories will report their suspicions to The Grecodar or the Shaca Investigative Force(SIF). Investigations into these cases are either performed by the SIF or the Order of the Grecodar.   Many Mages chose to lie low for the past century, waiting with bated breath for the world to become a safe place for practices. If a magic-user notices their gifts passed down to their child, their options are usually 1) bring or send their child to Scayrus or 2) bind the child's magic. Unfortunately, magic binding causes damaging results when performed without perfection.
