Coke (Fuel)

Orie Country has not always been a flatland environment that rises only at the Mountain Range. There was a plethora of trees and vegetation. That was before any humanoids lived in the region. The Asmain scientists have yet to discover what happened.   Fortunately, this barren land and the mountain range have coal seams throughout. Before the War on Magic began and perhaps even before the War with the Claw Continent, Craei Grecofoxas's scientists were able to develop a distillation process for turning coal into coke, a new type of fuel for Tarantellia at large.   Show Spoiler
Most of Tarantellia depends on magic for technological advancement; however, Orie Country shuns all usage of magic and relies heavily on science. Every scientific experiment requires documentation in triplicate to prove no magic was used.
Near the southern border of Asmain and along the Mountain Range are a series of beehive ovens designated for this distillation process. A portion of the slag has been used for building materials in Asmain, Shaca, and the Mountain Range. The remaining slag is traded for produce with Asmain and used as fertilizer.

History & Usage

History

The lack of wood and other known fuel sources led to this discovery rather quickly. After Craei Grecofoxas began the Orie Research Initiative in 1146 CD, the technological advancements of Orie Country bloomed. During this time, the understanding of available chemicals bloomed faster than the uses. Show Spoiler
Grecofoxas had very specific goals in mind. The Grecodars, people appointed by the presiding ruler to replace Grecofoxas' position in the anti-magic campaign, have been following his footsteps to manipulate technology growth in specific directions.

Industrial Use

To make armor, weapons, and products that insulate magic, coke is used to smelt iron and Crimstone. This combination creates a confusing result of dense and lightweight steel. The product is treated with a special oil solution which increases the insulation properties.
