Grand Bastion
Home to the Covenant of Man, Grand's Bastion history depends on who you ask. Most scholars believe that it was once a lab established by the Emperor Nero Grand Emperor of the Colonial Earth Empire, as a cloning lab that kept copies of the emperor. When the silence fell, the followers of Imperialism brought back to life the "true" emperor of mankind and established the Covenant of Man. They arose in the Terminus Systems during the Silence, becoming more and more radical in their beliefs. When they were finally discovered once again in the Mid Rim, they had looked radically different than their brethren in the Empire.
It is now a holy world, home to the Nero's Palace, where his genetic clones are kept. The layers of the city are built on ancient technology thats functions have long since been forgotten. Only the Tech Magi know their secrets, blessed with the ancient knowledge. Most of the city is organized around the Grand Spires, each controlled by a high magistrate. The spires go down for miles, filled to the brim with humans all born to serve as a cog in the machine of the Covenant. They spread outwards too, and at this point the overlap between spires is regular, and the magistrates weave plots to take more control of the planet. This is managed by the Emperor, who controls all. The magistrates are also beholden to the various clerics and administrators who run the bureaucracy. The varios judicars who police the city also control power here, and are happy to throw undesirables into the maws of the penal battalions.
What the Bastion lacks in comfort and freedom, it makes up in stablity and religious fervor. Very few in the galaxy fight with the conviction and ferocity of the warriors from this planet. Thus, visitors to the planet are rare, and usually only want to trade with the Grand Bastion magistrates. Their industrial power is fueled by the bodies they can throw at the solution.
