The Nekurian Army

War need its soldiers and leaders. How each faction structures its military decides how these soldiers and leaders act, and whether they are able to act or not.
The Nekurian Army is the overall military structure of Nekuram. The army consists of professional soldiers, levies and conscripts with The Royal Army included as a separate branch under the army. It is led by The High Officers of Nekuram and the King of Necur which also the High Officers answer to. The army has a history going far back into pre-marluni war times but only recently was reformed by the current Regent of Nekuram Arthon.

Structure

Armies vary from country to country and Nekuram is no exception when it comes to variety. Due to the many differing Necur that exists, such as Salendite, Tatarus, and Urukin, the army have seen many different structures in terms of composition and command structure. For most of the Nekurian Army's past, it was decentralized, led by leaders with other non-military roles such as nobility, politicians and tribe leaders. Even with the High Officers as an established leadership role most of them come from the Necur nobility ever since they became a permanent organisation. All combined it lead to that generals and officers being independent in many decisions even when any marshal or key figurehead was appointed to lead.

Reformation

When Arthon came to power, however, he reformed many of Nekuram's institutions, including the military. The traditional royal, regional and levy divisions would instead be radically changed with a new structure.

The Royal Army

The Royal Army remains a separate entity but expanded to have a more incorporated force. Previously The Royal Army consisted only of the The Royal Nekuraith Guard, an elite force by themselves but with little variety in terms of composition and only acting as guardians to the Demon King's family. Arthon changed so that the Nekuraith Guards also act as a shock infantry and cavalry when needed. Added to them are core infantry and missile troops from the professional army to serve as the king's own troops.

The Professional Army

A new professional and standing army was established, trained for warfare. The previous system of levies had been a key factor to the problems Nekuram faced in The War for Marlun. Leaders who were unwilling to aid or for other reasons did not want to contribute would be able to deny soldiers to the army. Now recruitment to a standing army prevents such problems, as these would be in direct control of the army leaders themselves with the king or appointed figure having the final say in all related matters.

The Council of Four Kings
Organization | Dec 30, 2023
A official military training academy for both soldiers and officers was established in the capital. This led to outroar among the veteran officers as it accepted anyone qualified and not only of status, which had been the case for many military educations. Women were also allowed, a much less controversial act due to the sudden changes that were performed.
Soldiers in the professional army were mixed with melee infantry, missiles and cavalry units. Predominantly it uses an infantry core that holds enemies in place. Missiles and cavalry are used for flanking and harassment. There are also special shock, ambush and logistical units that are considered elite units within the professional army.

The Regional Levy

The regional levy remain as a part of the army. Levies from regions are, however, only raised when truly needed. This is why the term "conscripted" is more commonly used among the people who are recruited to this part of the army. Compared to the professional army the regional levy is not used in the early stages of war. They are trained for war but otherwise remain normal subjects in their regions. It is up to each region to maintain the set standard for these levies.
Levies are very mixed in terms of composition. They are men and women who take up the arms given or selected for them as it is the regions themselves choosing the composition, a compromise that Arthon made with their leaders to make the reform happen. As an example, levies are handpicked to serve The Tatarenus Councils that represents the many Tatarus tribes and clans. Some even despite their peaceful nature volunteer to be warriors. They are trained to be shock infantry, something even the hardiest of soldiers probably should fear as they are two meters of muscles and horns.

Author's Notes

I got to use one of the stumps left from a long time ago, hurray! Not so hurray is the annoying big blank space in the middle... I have not found any good solution to this, rewritting the article is a future Worldkeymaster's problem. As it stands that ugly blank line will have to remain if no one knows any good trick to solve this. Also, any interesting questions on the army or clarifications of on it are always welcome!
