Lord Malageth Nightshade

People of Leuthil Tum have learned to fear and respect the guest that has rented a room in Slingshot Tavern for past 20 or so years. He is a star of many gruesome stories and his looks gather morbid curiosity, pity, and disgust. They say, that Malageth Nightshade is like a wrathful ghost that simply forgot to leave his body.

Malageth is Drow Mercenary and veteran of War of Scale and Arrow, and once-proud scout of Yanta Menohtar. Now, he is described as terrifying beast that kills for coin and shuns both drow and high elves alike. His body is hideously and painfully miss-shapen thanks to his horrid war injury, but his blades are still as deadly as at the time he was in his peak.

Most would stay as far from Malageth as possible, and they would be smart to do so. They say there is nothing but hatred, spite, and vengeance keeping this wounded soldier alive.

In the game, Malageth met up with Kerymis Donaevel and tried to kill him, thinking Kerymis to be his brother who was one of those responsible from Malageth's injuries. Kerymis felt pity for the poor soul, and after disarming him, has tried to take the mercenary under his wing to repay wrongs did to him.

Patch from Elflings has promised Kerymis to help and find relief for Malageth's pain and help with his rehabilitation.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

"Broken" is a word often thrown around when discussing Malageth. His body was severely disfigured after getting caught and tortured by empire soldiers, and he has lost a lot of his upper body strength as a result. Despite this and his trembling hands, Malageth is still formidable opponent in battle, if allowed to play with his own rules.

Body Features

Malageth is about 169 cm tall, has black, slightly purplish skin. His physique tells about his previous muscular build, but after his injuries he has withered significantly.

The torture that Malageth endured has left him with a crooked spine and poorly healed collarbone that sticks inward, and his shoulder on the same side is little too high and front and continuously tensed up. He has a strange, swaying walk, and he has a difficult time holding heavy objects. His hand jitter when they get tired, and while he is still able to use enemies' power to his advantage and does formidable shows off athleticism, his body needs to recover from those for long periods of time.

Facial Features

"His eyes look like someone has sucked the life out of them."

One of the more recognizable features of Malageth is his pale yellow eyes, that looked like yellowed bone. His base features are still handsome, but the state of his forehead greatly handicaps them.

Malageth has a big, ugly scar on his forehead, continuing on the side of his face. The scar is similarly shaped like a silhouette of a simplified bat, turned upside down, towards the outer corner of Malageth's eye. His brow has dropped because of the scar. The brow is hanging down, making his eye more squinty on the side of the scar.

Apparel & Accessories

Maybe for sentimental reasons, perhaps because it is the only thing that fits him anymore, Malageth still wears adamantine armor rewarded to him during his service in Yanta Menothar. His pair of delicate scimitars and light crossbow are specially designed for him to carry, as in his weakened state standard weapons would weigh him down too much.

To avoid too much attention, Malageth wears midnight blue cape of elvenkind, and boots of elvenkind. Besides his weapons and armor, he usually travels light.

Personal history

Malageth Nightshade was born to Nediamur'ss Nightshade in 29th of Jun, year 3821 to the great house Nightshade. With his family part of the Military Council of Zaetron Derraz, Malageth was expected to do great things, and he joined Yanta Menothar in a young age.

During his training, Malageth proved to be a capable fighter and would appropriately rise in ranks. His speed, stealth, and agility were recognized, and after training, he was offered a chance to serve in surface patrol. Malageth would take the position as a great honor.

On those days, Silver Shore Island was under the rule of Empire of Islenor, and the Empire had denied the local drow their freedom, so surface patrols were the brave scouts that would see that empire wouldn't invade their tunnels. The surface patrol would help to build tunnels that the drow of Mori'tarna would use to trade and communicate with their surface allies and defend and collapse the said tunnels if the enemy got near them. With eyes sensitive to the sun and enemy at their element, this was challenging for any yanta-warrior.

Life in the surface patrol was both dangerous and exciting for young Malageth, who wholeheartedly believed in their cause to protect The Children of Eilistraee. He would do work he felt had meaning, got the attention of the ladies, and was appreciated bu his family. His mother would plan to marry him for a good match after he would have enough merits to brag about, and Malageth felt like he was doing his calling, and everyone was satisfied.

War of Scale and Arrow would change everything. Great Matron Council was called to aid the Moonstalkers in their rebellion, and for the Battle of Moon Terrace, the matron council sent good portion of their troops to help with the invasion. To aid in the war efforts, a significant proportion of troops were taken from the surface patrols, and this would include Malageth.

Malageth would serve in the campaign and take part in the invasion. After the city of Moon Terrace was secured, the troops were given an option: help the dragonborn and Moonstalkers in the rest of the campaign, or go back home and help with the defences until the threat was over. Malageth would choose to return home, as he felt if the tunnels would be compromised during the campaign, he could never forgive it to himself. This decision, in hindsight, he would consider being his first great mistake.

After returning to Mori'tarna, Malageth was assigned to the new squad, with a fresh young commander he was supposed to help. This squad leader, however, was not going to take advice from a man, no matter how much more experienced, and she was hungry for an opportunity to prove herself. This lead to the squad getting too close to the enemy lines, mistake that Malageth would pay gravely. The squad had spotted a lost patrol of the Empire and ended up alerting them with their presence. While trying to escape, Malageth did his best to stall the enemies. Still, the squad leader would decide to crash the tunnel before he got into the safety of the underground, leaving him exposed to the angry, tired, and desperate enemy troops.

Malageth cannot tell how long he was in the enemy camp. The high elves of Empire would question and torture him, accusing him on their sorry state. They broke several bones from Malageth's body, and h would pass out several times during the torture sessions. Eventually, the patrol was ambushed by Moonstalkers, and Malageth with other prisoners were given in the care of local druid tribe, lead by elder Darun Hillridge.

Tribe did their best to bring Malageth from the edge of death back amongst the living. But his injuries were severe, and the aid of druids wouldn't save him from the constant pain, nor it would save his looks or his physical strength.

After months, Malageth would finally be in the condition to get back home, but he was not welcomed as a hero. The young commander had blamed failed quest on him to save her face, making him shunned by others. His mother would be greatly disappointed with her now hideous and disgraced son, whom she told would've been more honor to his family as dead than alive.

Heartbroken, Malageth would leave his home he had protected with his life, and bitterly he went back to the harsh sun on the surface. For a while, he would travel with the druids that had saved him but eventually didn't feel comfortable with their lifestyle. He would list himself as mercenary, doing odd jobs, drinking and drugging himself in his misery. Years that have past have made him increasingly sour.
