Session 22 - The Great Day at Hirschenwald
General Summary
The group attended the festivities of the most important holiday of the church year. The festivities are hectic. At the mass, Uisce received stares in the chapel for her unusual appearance. “Who knows when the Lord will return” was the content of the homily. “The Lord’s coming tomorrow!” enthusiastically stated Kaleb. He went on the egg hunt and found the most eggs - three, an allegedly massive achievement. As a reward, he got to eat a pie shaped like a deer’s head.
After the egg-hunt, a feast was served, and Wigand arrived with his retinue. Winifred spoke at length to her uncle, and told him that Sigisar was killed by Narcissa. Wigand toasted them both. In response to Winifred's solicitation of his opinion of her marriage plans, he strongly suggested that she should marry Reinhard, despite the trouble he has caused. He intimated that she should do this to keep himself and Matilda happy, and surmised that Reinhard would drop his villainous behavior after the union is formalized.
As the meal proceeded, Uisce charmed almost everyone she set her eyes on with another performance, and Wigand's companions started hitting on her. Upset at being manipulated again, and disgusted Winifred went off by herself and spoke to her confessor, who reiterated to her that she should not let brigands take control of her great hall again, and that it was time she took charge and began to make big decisions herself. In response, she sought out Kaleb, and told him that he and Manfred should come with her as she planned to sneak into Willmar at night. Upon hearing of this, Manfred conversed with Rodrick, and warned him of Wigand's possible alliance with the wererats. Later, he went to the keep’s scriptorium, and found a book about Bockkloster, a local saint. The story of the saint told of how he was a fisherman who sustained himself on fish from the Nixe River, until he had visions of angels rising up out of the river.
Kaleb then told Manfred about the nighttime meeting. Winifred got Edmon to enlist Uisca and Rodrick. Rodrick and Uisca were kicked out of their room by Wigand's party. The group assembled in the Great Hall as the night winds down, while Winifred, who was not present, planned to sneak out invisibly. She also gathered mustard seed in preparation for a coming confrontation. Dagobert von Linz told the group they can leave, but must stay out all night, because the gates wouldn't be opened for them before dawn. The group left, and Winifred managed to sneak out through the open gate.
The group went to the Blue Angel Tavern in Willmar, where Sigisar allegedly appeared. All around the village, and especially at the tavern, the group saw many Augurs. A fortune teller was there. She told Kaleb that he is lucky, and he responded “that is not true”. She also tells him he has a protective aura. She gave a palm reading to Winifred, and told her that she seems to be repeatedly circling the same decisions. She told Winifred “Do not fear, while you're here, no walking dead”.
Meanwhile, Winifred interrogated Bertrand, who was revealed to be Reinhard in disguise. Winifred attempted to scatter the mustard seeds to see if that had any effect on Reinhard, but he ignored them. Turning to diplomacy, she then offered him the chicken wand, a right to try for her hand in marriage, and forgiveness. Reinhard agreed, and allowed her to keep the chicken wand.
Outside, in the tavern, Kaleb began grabbing at Uisce’s clothes and pulled, but was then pushed by a force coming from Rodrick. Kaleb flew back, ripping Uisce’s dress wide open. She tried to leave the barroom floor with some dignity intact, and got a room. Winifred told Uisce about the Nixie ring, and that she thinks Reinhard has it. Someone coaxed Uisce and Rodrick to go do fireworks on the roof of the bar. Winifred warned Edmon and Manfred about Reinhard. A full Kaleb found a hiding place somewhere in the tavern, and curled up to sleep.
