First Day of School

The Characters

The first chapter starts with the start of the school year at the end of the summer of 318 AE.  Each PC is a high school student at Soyolyn Surguuli, one of the famed Khün Bür Sur Schools. They start each of their years by getting all of the boarding students settled back into the school then travel up river to attend Uulyn Bayar, the festival that celebrates Kaveto Mountain.

Character Creation Guide

  • Age between 16 and 18
  • You start at level 0 (using these rules). However, if you have a class in mind, play your character like you are that class!
  • I'm going to try and make this much less combat oriented than typical, but instead focus on encounters. Those encounters may involve combat, but will always look to have non-combat ways out of it.
  • Since you are a student, you will also have a major area of focus, and two minor areas of focus.
    • The major gives you proficiency on all Intelligence skill checks relating to that topic.
    • The minors give you a one time use piece of info that you just know.
    • You can decide what these topics are at any point. Eg, if a roll is focused around geography, you can decide that's your major before you make that roll! However, that is then your major for all future rolls.
  • Are you a boarding student or do you live in Salaangol
  • Choose from the races below, and keep in mind how common each race is. How common each race is should factor into your backstory. Example names for each race are in language page that is listed on the race's page.
  • Roll ability scores. I recommend you roll 4d6, drop the lowest, for each ability score for maximum fun, but I won't look down on you for using another method... that much.
  • Choose your background. This will be heavily based on the race and where you want to come from in the world. Examples and a couple pre-defined options are at the bottom of this page.

Races

Very common - These races are all common citizens of the Confederacy of Khünd Ajil and have nearby nations of their own.   Somewhat common - These races live a decent distance away but are still common, are found scattered all around the world, or have a cultural difference.   Uncommon   Very rare - These races live very far away or have another strong reason   Unheard of - These races are not playable for this act due to plot reasons, but you can try and convince the GM if you really, really, want to play one of them.

Example Backgrounds

  • A grandchild of the respected elder in the council of the festival town.
  • A child of a transplant Pallina family that wanted to buck the trends of Pallina culture.
  • A child of a Amikwànò builder guild member representative for Olon Uuloin Oran.
  • A Hovdet who has high expectations from their well-learned family but all they do is smoke it up 24/7. I'm looking at you, Smoku.
  • A refugee Molala that recently escaped from the subjugation in Mata Duitan.
  • A member of an Ardada family that ran from the Ardada Empire when it collapsed in 302 AE.
