Catalina of Datova
Arch-witch Catalina Seer
Catalina is an arch-witch, knowing all the areas of witchery. Her official job is the war wizard of Warton, which is a position she took only because Adaon of Datova chose to become the war wizard of Valkra and she wanted to be close to him.

Education
Catalina initially apprenticed with an old witch near Datova, where she was born. The woman cared for her from the age of twelve to eighteen, when she was able to complete all of the tasks the woman considered enough for Catalina to strike out on her won, if she chose. As Catalina is extremely intelligent and studious, she learned very well, learning the arts of spiritualism (where she understood contacting and using many spirits of nature) and necromancy, which her mistress used to contact the spirits of the deceased for those who missed their passed loved ones and acted as a medium. Catalina's original thought was that she would follow in this woman's footsteps and also become a similar practitioner, but the old lady knew that Catalina was far more talented and would be able to accomplish much more, so encouraged her to try to find further training with one of the churches or a wizard working with nobility in Datova.
Once in Datova proper, Catalina found it more difficult than expected and used what little she had to rent a room above an inn. As a country girl her unfamiliarity with the city was a challenge, and her choice of living arrangements, coupled with her youth and beauty, made some assume that she had completely different intentions in her career aspirations. She did not appreciate that! When one man became too aggressive she cursed him and one of his deceased enemies came and haunted him. Others found out and made the connection. This lead to her being able to set up as a medium for a short time.
After a few months someone came to get her help to get rid of a haunting. When she went to help, she discovered that the person's place had a small air elemental living nearby, which the owner had mistaken for a ghost. This was her first contact with elementalism. And she managed to dominate and capture the creature, putting it to work for herself (and incidentally getting rid of it for her client). The witch who had cursed her client noticed this, eventually finding her.
At first this witch was angry; however, when he saw how young she was, he was surprised and instead chose to recruit her as an apprentice. She studied with him for a further three years, mastering elementalism and astrology.
How Catalina learned demonology is a mystery.

Catalina is officially the war wizard of Valkra , and is living at Warton, where she has built her own fortified tower.
Mental Trauma
Catalina was once captured by her master's arch rival when she was still an apprentice, and tortured for a few days before she managed to escape. Part of her escape was that she recalled the name of a minor fiend and managed to summon it without a protective circle. In dominating it, she felt the presence of its mind completely and was horrified by what she felt.
Intellectual Characteristics
Mostly a loner, she keeps to herself as her high intellect makes it difficult for her not to condescend to others.

Motivation
Catalina's primary motivation is knowledge. She has a desire to know everything that can be known about witchery and spends tha majority of her time researching this area of magic.
Her secondary motivation is love for Adaon of Datova and family. While she had not intended on starting a family for another ten years or so, some kind of magic interfered with the protections they were using, both magical and mundane, so they will be starting a family soon.

She has a love of books, particularly those about witchery, with a weakness for mystery fiction, which is hard to obtain.
She has a particular dislike of men who frequent prostitutes and people (men or women) who abuse their family members.

Catlina comes across as aloof. This is more because she is afraid of accidentally insulting people by saying things in manners that they do not understand or pointing out blunt truths that they don't want to hear and accidentally insulting them. She tends to find most people kind of boring.
Speech
When she speaks she will speak clearly and confidently, although she has an odd accent which no-one seems to be able to place. This, to those closest to her, appears to be because she just speaks so many languages that they kind of mix up her tonality. Her confident tone can sometimes come across as condescending, even though it's unintentional.
