The rugged and wind-swept island of
Mar Miskun is home to a variety of strongholds, both occupied and in ruin. Many of these fortifications date back to the time of the
Thalissian Empire, standing as stark reminders of a bygone era.
Today, the island’s castles and towers are inhabited by pirates, warlords, and ambitious mages, while others lie abandoned, their broken walls shrouded in mystery and overgrown by time.
Occupied castles and towers
Fortresses and towers serve as both residences and strategic points of power. While some are homes to pirates, warlords, or exiled mages, others belong to officials of the
League of Mar Miskun.
A military stronghold in the town of
Kunkana, the Bastion is a robust and heavily defended keep that serves as the command centre for the region’s defence.
Fittar Mobinn, Master of Kunkana and a stern leader known for his iron will and tactical acumen, resides here.
Drisin Kir
Located on a bleak island far to the southwest, the fortress of Drisin Kir is the palace stronghold of the exiled Sea Wizard
Ghilar Khannas.
Standing on a high bluff along the road from
Barvon Bir to
Kunkana, Forshan’s Keep is a decaying fortress ruled by the corrupt strongman
Varros Taneth. Heavy tolls and arbitrary levies imposed by Taneth’s men have made the keep a place of resentment and unrest.
Situated at the eastern edge of the
Penstrarn Hills, Fort Drasash oversees the key fork where the road to
Penric descends. The fort is commanded by
Captain Paylin, a disciplined and dedicated officer who keeps a close watch over the surrounding trade routes.
Perched on the western tip of Mar Miskun, Fort Hassar guards the coast and serves as a base for patrol boats that monitor the western seas. Led by
Captain Tarfell, the fort maintains a modest garrison of soldiers and sailors tasked with deterring piracy.
The northernmost stronghold of Mar Miskun, Fort Hayil commands a vital position overlooking the
Hayil Strait. It is controlled by the city of
Penstrarn. The fort has become a place of corruption under the rule of
Captain Kapprin, whose greed and ambition have weakened its defences.
Once a ruined watchtower, Herin Jarsath has been restored and fortified by the exiled
Enchanter Arenna Semannon. Isolated at the far end of the
Giramon Coast, the tower serves as her refuge and base of operations as she seeks to build her own power.
The grand fortress at the southern edge of the city of
Penstrarn, this imposing keep serves as the residence of
Lady Yennithir. It stands as a symbol of authority and control over the city and its surrounding territories.
A massive domed structure in the heart of
Ashanok, the Round Keep is a hub of political power for the city’s seven
Dukes. Each Duke maintains a presence here, reflecting the unity and shared governance of Ashanok’s merchant elite.
Standing lonely on a small island near the
Isle of the Faithless, the Tower of Halshin was the domain of a reclusive
Caller. Though the tower is still structurally sound, it has remained empty since
Halshin's mysterious disappearance over two centuries ago, its history of dark summoning magic casting a lingering shadow over the island.
Overlooking the road between
Ashanok and
Halfway, the Tower of Tarinor serves as a military outpost guarding the Riverlands. Commanded by

Perched atop the cliffs of
Reaver's Bay, the fortress of Varferril is a pirate stronghold ruled by the fearsome

Ruins
Mar Miskun is dotted with ancient ruins, remnants of the Thalissian Empire’s once-great fortresses. These abandoned strongholds, now home to dangerous creatures or shrouded in eerie silence, attract adventurers and treasure-seekers hoping to uncover long-forgotten secrets.
Overlooking the treacherous waters of the
Straits of Charthol, the ruins of Charthol Keep are little more than crumbling walls and shattered towers. The lower levels remain partially intact, but the keep is now home to the fearsome
Thrasse, leathery-winged predators that hunt along the coast.
Once a proud sentinel on the northeastern coast, Fort Rosgan was shattered during the
War of Salvation. Now, its blackened ruins are a sombre reminder of the conflict, though rumours of hidden artefacts continue to draw scavengers and the curious to its overgrown halls.
The overgrown ruins of Korazin-Torr lie amidst the remote
Kalar Plains. Little more than scattered heaps of stone and overgrown fragments of wall, the once-mighty castle is a forlorn shadow of its former glory.
The tower of the enigmatic
Weaver Numod Zarine stands crumbling on the barren shores of the
Arrimor Peninsula. Known for its strange, shifting illusions and dark history, the tower has been abandoned for centuries, though its faded murals and spiral staircase hint at the magic that once thrived within.
The solitary Tower of Zalmar stands on a small island off the northeastern coast of Mar Miskun. Once the home of a renowned healer and
Guardian,
Zalmar's legacy remains in the unique
medicinal herbs that continue to thrive around the tower despite its abandoned state.
