Tower of Tarinor

The Tower of Tarinor stands on a small rise overlooking the road between Ashanok and Halfway, its stout silhouette visible for miles across the gently rolling hills of the Riverlands. The tower’s position grants it a commanding view over the nearby River Tholmish and the fertile lands around Ashmantan. Designed as both a defensive fortification and a way station for travellers, the tower has long served as a key outpost for maintaining the safety of the region.   Constructed of light grey stone, the tower is square in shape, rising three storeys high. Each corner is reinforced with angular buttresses, and a crenellated parapet crowns the top level, providing cover for archers. Narrow arrow slits line the upper floors, and a broad, iron-bound gate opens onto a small courtyard at the tower’s base. The surrounding walls are topped with sharpened wooden stakes to deter would-be intruders, while the courtyard itself contains stables and a few storage sheds for supplies and equipment.   The interior of the tower is functional and spartan, reflecting its role as a military outpost rather than a place of comfort. The lower floor consists of a guardroom and barracks, where the garrisoned soldiers can rest when not on duty. Above, a meeting chamber and Captain Telsas Calinn’s quarters take up the second floor, while the third floor serves as an armoury and observation post. A steep spiral staircase connects the levels, culminating in a rooftop platform where lookouts keep watch for any signs of movement on the roads below.

Telsas Calinn

Captain Telsas Calinn, a grizzled and seasoned veteran, commands the garrison at the Tower of Tarinor. Known for his sharp instincts and no-nonsense attitude, Calinn is well respected by his soldiers and feared by the bandits who prowl the countryside. He has personally led several raids into the wilds around Ashmantan, striking at brigand camps and disrupting their operations. Yet, despite his efforts, the raiders have proven resilient, their attacks on merchants and isolated farms becoming more brazen in recent months.   The bandits appear to be better organised than usual, leading some to suspect that a new leader has risen among their ranks. Calinn has dispatched patrols to hunt down the raiders, but their familiarity with the twisting trails and hidden gullies of the region has made the task difficult. The recent surge in attacks has also strained the garrison’s resources, leaving the roads between Ashanok and Halfway increasingly dangerous for travellers.
