Fort Rosgan
Fort Rosgan, once a proud sentinel of the League of Mar Miskun, now stands as a desolate ruin on the northeastern shore of the Sea of Fair Winds. Located a short distance east of the city of Penstrarn, the fort once played a vital role in maintaining security along Mar Miskun’s troubled northeastern coast.
Built to protect the maritime routes and supply patrols along the northern shores of Mar Miskun Fort Rosgan was one of the League’s key defensive outposts. It housed a significant garrison, and its small fleet of patrol ships scoured the coast for signs of corsair activity, maintaining the safety of merchant vessels trading with Teros and the Mar Mabon Townships. Constructed from grey stone quarried from the nearby Penstrarn Hills, the fort’s ramparts once rose high above the craggy shoreline, a symbol of strength and stability.
The fort’s history was forever changed during the War of Salvation two decades ago, when the forces of Teros launched a daring assault on the coast. In one of the war’s most tragic battles, a heroic captain of the Terosian forces, a Drile named Dayrin Alkor, made his last stand at Fort Rosgan. Wielding his enchanted spear, Ghyrane, Alkor held off waves of attacking forces before being overwhelmed. In the chaos of battle, Alkor’s body was lost, and the spear, rumoured to be imbued with a powerful enchantment that could pierce through any armour, vanished along with him.
Today, Fort Rosgan lies shattered and abandoned, its walls broken and its once-mighty towers little more than crumbling husks. Blackened scorch marks mar the stone where fire spells and siege engines struck. The central courtyard, once bustling with soldiers, is now overgrown with weeds and brambles. The great hall, where strategies were once discussed and orders given, has collapsed, its roof long since caved in. The lower levels of the fort, rumoured to hold hidden storerooms and secret passages, are flooded and dangerously unstable.
The League of Mar Miskun has considered rebuilding Fort Rosgan in the years since the war’s end, but political divisions have made it a low priority.
