Heartlander

There is no law for farm labor organizing, save the law of the jungle. A Heartlander is an individual who hails from the heartland region under House Udaku. The region is blessed with extremely fertile land, ore-rich mountains, and rolling hills and populated by darker skinned races.  Heartlanders are more lax in ideas around clothing, interpersonal relations, and sex. Credence is given to those who can take care of themselves but lend a hand to one another in their communities, especially in familial relations.

Culture

Major language groups and dialects

When the early Heartlanders under House Udaku arrived in Halruaal, they formed a quick bond with the early settlers of House Kamose - now known as Necobians. The common language between the two was Osirisan - now seen as "Ancient Osirisan." Both ethnic people speak the common language of Halruaal, though Heartlanders speak it with elven subtext established before the War of Conflict with the elves. This combination of Common and Elvish has become more prominent in the heartland as bardic practices developed under House Udaku.

Culture and cultural heritage

Heartlanders are used to the jungles and to the plains.  The first of House Udaku left a country filled with vast jungles and dangerous predators before discovering Halruaal and setting up shop in the Heartlands.

Shared customary codes and values

Heartlander culture emphasis practical individual growth. But growth for the sake of just one is not consider respectable. A person should strive to be strong enough to support their family and community and in turn the community is meant to support the individual.

Average technological level

Although not as technologically advanced as Keildeners under House Blackharbour and Northerners under Hanover, Heartlanders hold a special connection to the land and nature. People here know more advanced means of crop growth, animal husbandry, and communications. the wizards are masters of the mind and memory and have adapted quickly to the magical breakthroughs and advanced technologies established over the two millennia.

Common Dress code

Heartlanders typically wear few clothing and the clothing they do wear is incredibly breathable and actionable.  Being from a more jungle region with larger predators, the Priority is for lightweight fabric that can be practical in fighting, running, and surviving in humid situations.

Art & Architecture

Heartlander societies are more apt for the jungle and the planes.  It sports a more open feel and architects tend to imbue a sense of being close with nature especially in a more humid environment. 

Common Customs, traditions and rituals

Ancestor worship and community based unity.

Coming of Age Rites

Young Heartlanders are tasked with hunting within the jungle by themselves.  They have two weeks to bring the heart of a conquered kill and be declared an adult.

Funerary and Memorial customs

Burial practices dictate days long funeral rites inviting the friends and family of the deceased. During this time guest honor the individual and that individuals ancestors, asking that they be reunited and watch over the deceased living family. This rite is then followed by either cremation of the individual or burial (such as the case for nobles within the Necropolis).

Historical figures

The most important figure in Heartlander Society is the First Archon and now God Terrac'oko Udaku. He is known as the greatest Arch-wizard who lived in the Heartlands. Otherwise, every First Archon of House Udaku is honored and revered as a paragon of their society.

Ideals

Beauty Ideals

The focus of beauty stems from an acceptance of natural features with a thoughtful level of personal grooming. Heartlanders typically appreciate an Athletic build (with a focus on muscle endurance over muscle strength) regardless of profession. The highest ideal is to be comfortable within your own skin and with your own health. In terms of colours, Heartlanders prefer bright colours promoting a sense of life and airiness.

Gender Ideals

Regardless of gender, Heartlanders appreciate an equal respect for all individuals. Most view gender as a spectrum rather than a set binary but respect those who identify as one or the other. In general, those ascribing to a more masculine gender at thought to be seen more as hunters and protectors. Those more feminine leaning are thought to be more inclined to become skilled magic users and diplomats. Either way, leaders are capable of arising out of the spectrum based on the individuals talents.

Courtship Ideals

The more dominate in the partnership offers a pelt of a challenging kill (or a challenging creation made by a natural element) to declare their respect and admiration of the other(s). This gift is typically a sign of the intent to court or marry.

Relationship Ideals

Most Heartlanders are not strictly monogamous. Being followers of the god, Terrac'oko, a lot of Heartlanders believe that love is not always strictly limited between two people. Partnerships can exist among several people regardless of sex or gender. Any way a relationship occurs, people expect a co-equal partnership with people meeting the strengths with the weaknesses of each other.

Major organizations

The Magisterium's culture is superseding in Heartlander society, but the ethnicity still remains heavily influenced by the Noble House Udaku.
