Ser Winward Rowntree was a knight of The Order of the Laughing Tree in The Kingdom of Rotheval. He was a cousin of ser Margaret Rowntree. In 442KS he attended a Tourney at Cainfield, seeking to confront the competitor who had injured ser Margaret at the The Tourney at Fairstrand some months previously, though they were not in attendance.
Ser Winward continued an interest in the Tourney circuit in The Kingdom of Somercrag, and attended the Tourney at The Hollow at the end of that year. Unfortunately while riding in that tourney he was exposed to Drowner's Lung. He remained under quarantine in The Hollow while Somercrag's Royal Council scrambled to find a cure to the disease. He was eventually cured by the intervention of Michael, a survivor of a previous outbreak of the disease in The Swamps of Baycotte.
While recuperating from his brush with disease ser Winward was contacted by the Lord Commander of his order, in response to King Tyon I Cray's invitation to various Rothevalian Knightly Orders to establish Chapter-Houses throughout Somercrag. He was invited to take up the position of Chapter Master and found The Hollow Chapter of the Order of The Laughing Tree, which he gladly accepted.
In the winter of 451KS ser Winward caught a winter cold which, with the damage from Drowner's Lung, his body could not shift. He died a few days before the end of the year, at the age of forty-two.
