Errantry Quest
When a Neophyte in one of the Rothevalian Knightly Orders completes their training and recieves their knighthood, it is customary1 for the new Knight to embark upon an errantry quest. Where possible, this will be a joint effort for several graduated knights - either from the same Order, or from several Orders working together. This may mean that a new Knight has to wait for others to complete their training.
An errantry quest is usually given either by the knight who the Neophyte trained under, or the Errantry Master if there is one. It might be a request for aid that was brought to the order, something the Errantry Master, Chapter Master or Lord Commander has as a personal interest, or in particularly quiet times the Knights Errant may simply be charged with travelling the land until they have earned a reputation for themselves.
Regardless of the form the errantry quest takes, one thing is common to all such quests - the knight is forbidden from returning to their Chapter-House, or any other house of their Order, until word of their deeds has spread far enough that the Chapter Master hears, and invites them to return.

1: there are some exceptions, such as smaller Chapter-Houses with a pressing need for knights; or Neophytes who earn their knighthood early through valorous deeds during their training.
