Authenian Republic

The Authenian Republic is one of the three nations within Eregost. It has positive relations with the Ceilic region and positive yet deteriorating relations with the Venatorian Empire. The Authenian Republic wishes for the free exchange of ideas and knowledge. Their society is more liberating than the Venatorian Empire yet more orderly than the Ceilic region, keeping the peace without oppression.

Structure

The Republic is ruled by a council of 13 elected representatives. Each one oversees an Authenian Cities and major towns. There are four government Committees. Civil, Martial, Scientific and Arcane. Civil deals with government services, such as education, maintaining public spaces, conservation and public entertainment. Martial deals with law enforcement and military operations. Scientific deals with higher level education, architecture, engineering, zoology and development of technology. Arcane deals with the education of wizards, as well as preserving the Authenian Archives, staying vigilant for magical threats and recovering powerful magic items.

Culture

The Authenian Republic places great value on free thinking and speech. Philosophy is highly appreciated and people are encouraged to find interest in the subject. Intelligence and creativity are highly valued, and narrow-minded viewpoints and stubbornness if frowned upon.   Unlike the singular compiled culture of the Venatorian Empire, each region in the Authenian Republic has its own cultural identity, different customs, traditions and taboos.   Zestós and its people have a culture focused on the enjoyment of life and its many pleasures. They have a very relaxed view on sexuality and love when compared to the rest of the Authenian Republic, and Eregost in its entirety. Zestósian households are typically situated very closely to their relatives, and familial bonds are close. Religion is followed casually rather than fanatically, with Dionysus being the most popular Olympian in the region.   Kardiá and its people have a belief that people should only have what they have earned. Gift giving is a purely romantic gesture, as it is considered to give something to someone if they haven't earned it, unless it is given to a lover. Kardián people believe that everyone should experience hardship in their life, as it is the only way to not grow up to be weak. Most Kardiáns have a dry sense of humour, and a sense of justice as harsh as the storms that batter their houses.   Ilios and its people are located on the island of Rhodesseum, and this slight isolation from the rest of the Authenian Republic has given them a more distinct culture when compared to their mainland allies. The people of Ilios have a lifestyle more in harmony with nature than most mainland Authenians. This may be due to the fact that roughly one third of the inhabitants of Ilios are nymphs who originally acted as nature spirits. Helios is the patron deity of Ilios, and the Order of Helios has its main temple in Ilios. The people of Ilios follow Helios' teachings, and as such believe that no one mortal is more important than another. This creates a sense of humility across the city of Ilios.   Arcadia and its people value curiousity, intellect and peace above all else. The Authenian Archives are located in Arcadia, and thanks to this, there is a relatively high population of mages in Arcadia. Due to the high concentration of spellcasters, the value placed upon intellect and peace, and due to the fact that the Arcadian Forests were the place of his birth, Hermes is widely worshipped in Arcadia. Arcadians are naturally curious people, and has the highest sale of books in the entirety of the Authenian Republic.   Lysan and its people value bravery and endurance. They believe that history is made with blades, not words. Lysan has only been in the Authenian Republic for three hundred years, before that it was a city state. When it joined the Authenian Republic, it was written that the king of Lysan would not stand down, but the would instead share power with a Senator. After the aftermath of the Trojan War, the king of Lysan was stripped of all real power and became a figurehead. Ares is the Patron God of Lysan, and is commonly worshipped. Lysanic people value masculine qualities in both their men and women, and have the strongest military in all of the Authenian Republic. Seeing as many young men leave Lysan to join the Authenian Military, most of the Lysanic Guards are women, and they are known for their brute strength and ferocity in battle. Lysan is the only city in the Authenian Republic where Areites can expect to receive a warm welcome, and they even have a headquarters in the city.

Religion

The official pantheon of the Republic is the Gods of Olympus. The worship of other gods is frowned upon, but not illegal.

Foreign Relations

The Authenian Republic has a complicated relationship with the Venatorian Empire. On one hand, the Venatorians and the Authenians have a blossoming trade relationship and exchange information regularly. But due to the neutrality of the Authenians towards the Venatorians' acts of argression against the Ceilic region.   The Republic has recently started to trade with the Ceilic region. They are indifferent to eachother's political views and societal norms, but the Republic benefits from Ceilic raw materials and the clans of the Ceilic region enjoy the luxurious products the Republic has to offer.

Agriculture & Industry

The Authenian Republic is famous for its wine. In the eastern region of the Republic, known as Zestós, there are vast fields of grape vines, and multiple distillery plants. Approximately one quarter of this wine is shipped out to the Empire, and the occasional bottle can be found in the Ceilic region, although it is quite rare.   At the western border of the Republic, lies Theiáfi Canyon, an uninhabited natural wonder known for its beauty, danger and vast amounts of sulfur. This sulfur is harvested and used in the production of gunpowder.   The land surrounding Mount Olympus has an abundance of wild mountain goats, which are hunted for their meat and fur, and some farmers have begun to domesticate them for their milk and cheese.

Education

Every citizen of the Authenian Republic is taught the fundamentals of mathematics, geography and history. Public philosophical lectures are common at libraries and meeting centres.   The Authenians have a large academy for educating those they believe have to potential to become a wizard. The Authenian Arcane Committee oversees these would-be mages, and if they show promise, they receive more complex training and often become employed by the Committee.

Major Imports
The Authenians purchase large quantities of whale oil from the Venatorian Empire. They use this oil for lamps, maintaining mechanisms and the creation of soaps and paints. The Republic trades with the clans of the Ceilic region, purchasing copper, mead, limestone for water purification and even Blacklight Metal.
Legislative Body
The Republic is ruled by twelve councillors, each one is an elected representative from a major Authenian settlement. Together they vote on the actions of the Republic, from passing laws to what actions should be taken in the event of a nationwide crisis.
