Aphrodisia

History

The festival of Aphrodisia has been around since ancient times, from before Kardiá was part of the Authenian Republic. The Kardián king, Tryferós Sýzygos, created Aphrodisia to celebrate the beauty of his wife, Nyfi Tiskalosýnis, whom he held dear.

Execution

The festival of Aphrodisia lasts for one week, and although it is celebrated all throughout the Authenian Republic, it is most glamorous in the city of Kardiá, the city where it originated from.
The festival is held in honour of Aphrodite, and celebrates beauty, love and lust. The sale of flowers skyrockets during the festival. During the festival, people are encouraged to confess any secret attraction they hold. Many partake in romantic getaways, dinners as well as more adult activities.
Partners often exchange gifts during the festival. Gifts include lavish confectionery, such as chocolate or pastries, fine wine (often Zestósian) and poetry.
The Church of Aphrodite often funds theatres, hire musicians to play in public and purchase and use fireworks at night, as they believe these help create a romantic atmosphere.
