The Olympians

Public Agenda

Most Olympians see the world as under their responsibility, and so they mold it as they see fit, whenever they feel something must be changed.   Each Olympian controls a different aspect of the world and its people, and so they each try and correct the world to their standard. Hera tries to keep spouses loyal, Demeter keeps the forests safe, Hermes befriends the cunning and fools the stupid.

History

In the beginning, their was only Chaos, a primordial deity of discord, until he created Hemera, Day incarnate, and Nyx, Night incarnate.   Chaos then created Tartarus, The Void Incarnate, and then fell into a slumber. Hemera than created Gaia, the manifestation of the Earth. Gaia then constructed herself a husband, Uranos, The Sky. Her equal and opposite in every way.   Uranos and Gaia had 16 children. Six gods. Six goddesses. Three Cyclops and three Hecatoncheires, giants with one hundred arms and fifty heads.Uranos grew mad with power, and had his Cyclops and Hecatoncheires children imprisoned. Gaia feared for what her husband might become if his ego was left unchecked and so she gave a sickle to her youngest son, Cronos.   Cronos used this sickle to castrate his father, and while this would not be a permanent injury to the elder god, it was enough to give him some humility. He dubbed Cronos and his siblings "Titans", meaning "The Stretchers" as they had stretched beyond their limitations. Uranos then crowned Cronos as ruler of the sky, sea and underworld.   Cronos heard a prophecy that he would be overthrown be one of his children and so, fearing the loss of his rulership, he ate every one of his children right after they were born. Rhea, Cronos' wife, asked Gaia and Uranos for aid, and so they replaced Rhea's youngest child, Zeus, with a blanket full of rocks. Zeus was raised by his grandmother, Gaia, until he grew enough that he decided he should be ruler.   Zeus poisoned his father to free his siblings from inside their father. Together they started an uprising against the Titans. All Titans opposed them, except for Prometheus and Helios. Zeus then freed The Cyclopses, who out of gratitude forged Zeus his Thunderbolts, Poseidon his Tritent and Hades his Helm of Shadows. After than freeing the Hecatoncheires, who acted as living seige machines, Zeus managed to overthrow his father, banishing all Titans to Tartarus except for Rhea, Helios, Prometheus and Atlas. Atlas was instead condemned to hold up the heavens itself.   Zeus then split up the domain of his father amongst himself and his two brothers, Zeus took the sky, Poseidon claimed the seas, and Hades inherited the Underworld.

Territories

Whilst the gods of Olympus claim domain over everything and everywhere, the only paces that could be said to belong solely to them are Mount Olympus and The Underworld.

Mythology & Lore

Born from the titan, Cronos, Zeus rebelled against his father and freed his siblings; Demeter, Hestia, Hera, Poseidon and Hades. After banishing his father to Tartarus, Zeus claimed the title of Chief God for himself, and has ruled over Eregost from Olympus ever since.   Zeus claimed the sky as his domain, with Hera as his wife. Demeter watched over the forests. Poseidon controls the sea and Hades rules the Underworld.   As the rule of the Olympians secured, more gods were born, many thanks to Zeus's infidelity. His affair with Leto led to Apollo and Artemis. Maia gave birth to his son Hermes, and after his mortal lover, Semele, was killed, Zeus sowed their unborn child into his thigh to continue growing, this child would become Dionysus.

Priesthood

Mortals hoping to become priests of an Olympian must dedicate years of their life to understanding and appreciating the god's values.   Priests of Zeus must acknowledge power and strength. Priests of Ares must know of the glory of war. Priests of Demeter must see the beauty of nature. Priests of Artemis must know of the thrill of the hunt. Priests of Hermes must know of the joy of trickery.   Priests snd clerics of these gods always carry a token or symbol related to their god.

Political Influence & Intrigue

Both the Authenian Republic and the Venatorian Empire worship the gods of Olympus, though the Empire refers to these gods by their venatorian names.   Emperor Vigilo Angelius sees his celestial blood as proof that his family has been chosen by the gods, and that he acts with Zeus (or Jupiter as he is known in the Empire) guiding his fate.   In regards to the Venatorians preparing for war with the Ceilics, none of the gods are willing to intervene in a spectacular way, as if the gods take drastic measures, such as killing the Emperor, the Empire would surely collapse in on itself.
