Mount Olympus

Mount Olympus is the home of the Olympian Gods, they make their home on the highest peak of the mountain, with many of them living in luxurious palaces made by their own miraculous power, as befits a god. They watch over mortalkind with great interest, giving boons to those that please them, and foul curses or painful deaths to those who anger them.   The Olympians do not allow mortals to have the privelege of stepping foot on their peak, and those who attempt to climb the highest peak are met with lethal divine power, from lightning bolts to witnessing the gods in their true forms, no mortal has ever entered the dominion of the gods without their permission.   To the Olympians, Olympus acts as a palace, throne room and watchtower all in one, acting as both a symbol of their right to rule, and a vantage point to which they use to observe the affairs of the continent they claimed sovereignty over.

Geography

Mount Olympus is the largest mountain range in Eregost, with its highest summit surpassing the clouds. The vast height of Mount Olympus means that it gets incredibly cold near the top, and a large portion of the mountain is blanketed in snow and frost. The summit of Olympus is unnaturally warm when compared to how cold the rest of the mountain is.   Olympus is incredibly rocky, though there are plenty of large patches of grass, bushes and even trees on the mountain. There are multiple small streams found throughout Olympus, providing fresh mountain water to wildlife. Many of the peaks of Olympus surpass the clouds, providing those who are willing to climb the colossal mountain with a truly stunning view like no other. Practically all of Eregost can be seen from Olympus, granting the gods the ability to watch over the continent, and granting traveling pilgrims the honour of beholding it.   Olympus is littered with small freshwater pools, teeming with aquatic life, and caves and caverns of various sizes. These pools are filled with minerals and precious metals, particularly platinum. The caves of Olympus have remained largely unexplored, as many fear that they will face the wrath of the gods for daring to enter these caves.

Localized Phenomena

The highest peak of the mountain is unnaturally warm, compared to the freezing cold that is experienced on all other peaks of the mountain range. This difference in heat is due to the presence of the Olympian Gods on the highest peak, where they make their home and watch over Eregost.

Fauna & Flora

Mount Olympus is teeming with wildlife. Mountain lions and bears are the largest predators in the area, though the number of mountain lions is starting to dwindle.   Deer and goats are the biggest prey animals on the mountain, and are chased by both beasts and hunters alike. Many make a living selling the meat and pelts of these beasts. Wild boars also roam the lower hald of the mountain range, and some hunters slaughter them for their meat and their tusks.   Red foxes and Apollonian foxes are found scattered throught Mount Olympus and its surrounding areas, though these foxes are deemed sacred, and hunters steer clear of harming them.   Some species of salamander find homes in small pools on water found throughout Mount Olympus, though they prefer the pools of water found in caves, as they thrive in dark, damp places.

Tourism

Mount Olympus is regularly visited by pilgrims who feel that they would like to get as close to their gods as possible without the risk of being struck by a lightning bolt. They come to pray and leave offerings to the gods, and many come as well to take in the captivating scenery of the Olympus and its surrounding areas.
