Earth: Home of Humanity
Earth was discovered to be the only planet with naturally occurring, complex life living on it. Over the past thousands of years that humanity have existed on it, they grew from primitive, spear-throwing creatures to beings with sophisticated technology, complex societies, and the will to conquer the stars. After thousands of years of mass industry without the use of Digital Fabrication and Space Rending technology, the atmosphere has been polluted, people quickly left, and all that remains of the earth are semi-mutated humanoids and garbage. Scattered throughout the planet are several mega cities harboring billions of people, however they are few and far between. Efforts have been made to purify the Earth, however progress has been slow and expensive, causing many to abandon the project, leaving the Earth as a grim reminder of what over ambition can lead to if careless.
Geography
The Earth consists of 7 major continents, each housing mega cities spanning about 75% of their respective continent's landmass. Mountains have been leveled, ravines have been filled in: the earth has been smoothed out and paved over almost entirely to accommodate for humanity's rapid horizontal growth.
Fauna & Flora
The majority of the earth's species have been killed off in the wild, however vast arrays of DNA banks keep hundreds of redundant backups for extinct species, ensuring that they never truly die off. Space habitats and zoos still house many animals that the public may visit and view.
Natural Resources
The Earth, despite being almost completely barren on the surface bar its immense mega cities, still has vast quantities of minerals within its crust.
Tourism
Most Terrans born in distant systems make it a personal goal to visit the Terran System, Earth especially, simply to view the home of their ancestors with their own eyes and lean of their history in person. In a galaxy where artificial memories and experiences are synthesized en masse, having something as real as this rite is seen as special.
