OM Supercompound
OM Superproductions owns the primary factory for the entire terran system: the gargantuan OM Supercompound. It produces the majority of the system's common goods, weaponry, spacecraft, vehicles, robotics, tools, and more. This massive foundry was first constructed in the giant, dormant volcano on mars known as Olympus Mons, and currently uses said volcanoe as the solar system's most massive geothermal power plant. Now. it's walls and grey land span miles away from the volcano, covered in shipyards, factories, transit stations, logistics systems, private cities, and more.
Purpose / Function
The OM supercompound's main purpose is to process raw ores mined from the red lands of mars, asteroids, and other mineral-rich locations in the system and turn them into finished products for the terran system to consume and eventually recycle. The compound manages to accomplish this through the billions of employees, trillions of machines, and thousands of miles of land they have available to them... not to mention the many trillions of dollars worth of assets they own.
Alterations
Originally, the building was simply a factory built within the dormant volcano of Olympus Mons, using it's latent geothermal power to smelt ores and provide energy to the factory and any neighboring colonies. Over time, however, the compound grew, and grew, and grew, until finally becoming the titan of industry it is today. Even now, the old walls of the previous segments of the compound can be seen as a reminder of OM's growth over the many hundreds of years.
Architecture
From orbit, it appears as if the very land of mars was a cold, metallic grey spanning for miles from the collosal volcano right in the center of the compound. Millions of smaller vessels visibly flying to and from the facility, carrying passengers, materials, and products. Every building was designed for efficiency, cost reduction, and mass production; giving the entirity of the compound a gloomy, samey look no matter where you go. Small spots of green may be seen by one with a keen eye, however appears as little more than a blackhead on the face of an automated landscape designed for nothing but production.
History
Started shortly after the terrans first began colonizing the solar system in the year 2078, Olympus Mons was an ideal place to begin settlement of mars. The massive lava tubes of the planet provided coverage from the hostile outside world, and the dormant volcanoe itself allowed for easy access to heat and energy. The OM Foundry was truly the first part of the megastructure we see today: being little more than a fabrication area for spare parts the colony needed.
