Trinea (/Trin-ee-ah/)

History and Government

Tieflings - the cursed offspring of Xalgumath. For far too long, their devilish kind lived under the boot of various human kingdoms. From the times of indebtitude to various pogroms and massacres, no race can claim greater strife at the hands of humanity. But no longer - for Trinea lives.   The heartlands of modern-day Trinea have been a haven for Tieflings since olden times. Kcalsburian Tieflings flocked to its borders as they fled the inquisitions of The Crimson Aphorites and the headhunts of the Horse-Lords. The idea of Trinea as a Tiefling homeland originated following the crush of The Red Riot at the hands of Vestal, which previously controlled the region. This idea persisted for nearly a century before boiling over in The Trinean Liberty War, actualized in the late Age of War.   Today, Trinea stands as an ethnically diverse state - but, at its core, a fundamentally Tiefling one. Discrimination of mortal races is commonplace, and the preference of Tieflings over non-Tieflings in all manner of jobs and social positions is strongly upheld. Tieflings control the vast majority of the ruling Kraalsko (or Kings' House) and hold all important positions in the military and bureaucracy, even despite the fact that an active draft requires all to serve for two years after reaching adulthood. Humans hold the brunt of Trinea's oppression, especially in the regions of Riverside and Fartree where their political power is non-existent and separatists regularly attempt revolt.   Despite such struggles, Trinea remains remarkably stable. A coalition of nationalist parties has held a tight grip on the Kraalsko for generations, and it appears to be there to stay. Even should popular support amongst Tieflings shift, human representatives often boycott the Kraalsko as an illegitimate institution, crippling the hopes of any practical opposition. In its absence, the nationalists' policy of "pride and steel" thrives, instilling in every Trinean national pride and the belief that arms shall keep the country free.

Cities

Prima Trinea

Prima Trinea is the capital of Trinea, a metropolis whose suburbs span most of the lake-locked region of Trinea. Almost two million people live throughout the region, and just under half a million live within the proper bounds of the city. Prima Trinea is known for its canals, which splice across the land and connect the Highlakes together. A boat is a viable means of travel throughout Prima Trinea, though the city is equally accessible by walking upon its twisting streets and alleyways. Temples to all figures of the Tawi Mythos lay in Prima Trinea, and these temples are considered the official authorities on those figures' teachings.

Geography

The main region of Trinea is largely just an urban environment, interspersed with the canals and lakes that define the Highlakes. Outside of this large hub, the swampy region of Espia leads towards Darcea, which contains Trinea's most important source of lumber in the form of the northern Southwoods Forest. The Forsaken Mounts cast long shadows over these regions, providing significant mineral wealth as long as the territories of the dwarves within are rightfully respected.   Further west, the human-majority regions of Riverside and Fartree hold much of Trinea's more agrarian lands. Farms dot the land here, growing all manner of crops and raising animals for the slaughter. Historically, struggle between Trinea and the locals has been prominent, though it is always swiftly put down. When farmers refuse to pay their tithes or send the appropriate amount of food to Trinea, the constabulary forces are quick to come knocking at their doors - and you don't want the constabulary forces at your door. During the beginning stages of the Trinean takeover, hunger strikes were common among the farmers. They were not effective; those who starved had their farms taken over by Tiefling expatriates.   The western regions of Trinea also hold much wealth in lumber within the Fartree Forest and Beewoods. Because of the instability of these regions, though, this wealth is largely untapped. This is something of an annoyance to the Trinean government, as Vestal and Zaral still exert direct claims over the entirety of the region, and their disuse bolsters those claims.

Resources

Trinea does not have any major unique exports, and trade with the nation was generally sanctioned by the nations of the Kcalsbury Continent until quite recently. Instead, Trinea has focused its economy upon self-subsistence, fearing a reliance on others even absent of the threat of embargo. The Forsaken Mounts provide a vast wealth of silver and iron to fuel the Trinean war machine, while the outlying woods of the nation fuel its expanding urban sprawl.   Trinea has had issues with its food supply in the past, as much of it is in the hands of human farmers. It has actively pursued a policy of displacement against these farmers, seeking to place Tiefling farmers in formerly-human-owned farms. Those suspected of action against the Trinean government can have a hold placed upon their property following their death, and such a hold is only lifted if the legal inheritor can testify and prove that their fallen ancestor was a Trinean loyalist. To testify is often to incriminate oneself, and thus many properties in Trinea fall into the hands of the Kraalsko. The logistics of food have been growing more hopeful in light of this policy, though there are still occasional struggles during which the Highlakes' fish population is driven to extremely low levels to compensate.

Ethnicities

Trinea is primarily a nation of Tieflings, though other racial minorities also find a pleasant home here, including Asplings and @Glow. These races primarily conglomerate in Prima Trinea, Espia, or Darcea. Humans - primarily Vestalians and Uzbari - live in the outer regions of Riverside, Fartree, and Southwood.
